2024 Genesis Scottish Open Forecast and Projections

We’re teeing off for the Genesis Scottish Open in North Berwick, Scotland, with weather that is surprisingly tame for what we’ve come to expect.

ComboPGAcomparison

As usual in my golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts. With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try to highlight the time frame with the lightest winds and the time frame with the strongest winds to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another. You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on DFS sites and sportsbooks.

Genesis Scottish Open Weather Forecast

Thursday, July 11th

Things start off how you might expect in Scotland: off and on light rain, with winds around 10 mph sustained gusting over 1 5mph. Gradually, the weather just… improves. By the afternoon, the rain is gone, and winds are only 5-10 mph.

Friday, July 12th

Starting off Friday with dry conditions and light 5-10 mph winds. Winds will pick up a bit in the afternoon but should still top out at a manageable level of around 10 mph sustained with gusts over 15 mph.

Saturday, July 13th

A few scattered showers are back in the forecast for Saturday, with 10 mph sustained winds and stronger gusts.

Sunday, July 14th

Light winds (5-10 mph) and dry conditions to close out the tournament.

Genesis Scottish Open Weather Thoughts

First off, I hate it. I was hoping for pure weather carnage and a huge edge, but instead, we get very mild weather all tournament long. I still do think there’s an edge, however, as a Thursday PM / Friday AM build should get the better of the weather on both days. It’s not a massive edge because even the “bad weather” times are very manageable, but it’s still an advantage, and we’ll take any of those we can get.
