Editor’s Note: The “High Stakes Scene” is a recurring series giving you an in-depth look into the highest stakes games in the Daily Fantasy world. Our first “High Stakes Scene” featured top-ranked STLCardinals84 providing in-depth analysis into his head-to-head matches vs. BrettFavre444. From there we’ve expanded to cover more of Daily Fantasy’s best across the industry. Full details on the current $100,000 Heavy Hitters Bracket match can be read here. We hope you enjoy the coverage.

What’s up Grinders, we are happy to bring you another edition of the High Stakes Scenes. In this edition, we will be covering DraftStreet’s $100,000 Heavy Hitter Series. This is a 16-man bracket with some of the biggest names in the industry competing. We are down to the final 2 entrants as both BirdWings and vegetable_lasagna outlasted their opponents to make it to the Championship. This series is a best of 7 and we will cover each game as the series moves on.
BirdWings vs. vegetable_lasagna
Game 4: vegetable_lasagna 52 – BirdWings 41
Thoughts on Game 4:
Vegetable_Lasagna was able to pick up another win in game 3, and came into game 4 looking for a sweep. We saw two very different kinds of strategy in game 4. Vegetable_Lasagna paid up for Clayton Kershaw and Felix Hernandez, and instead of going with a RP, he took another medium priced guy in Lance Lynn. He used 64% of his salary for pitching in this matchup, and this is the first time all series we’ve seen him do this. His pitchers put up a combined 41.08, and BirdWings team scored a combined 41.25. VL looked for value in Joe Mauer, Alex Avila, John Baker, and Andrew Romine. These 4 guys were all under 3k tonight, and combined for a 2.75 but it really was plenty after what his pitchers did.
BirdWings went with a completely different approach at pitcher, and took 3 guys in plus match ups in the middle tier. All 3 guys went 6 innings and had decent games, but just didn’t do enough for BirdWings to overcome Lynn. He was able to get good games out of Eaton and Jennings, but his big three struggled in this matchup. Chris Davis, Chase Utley, Ryan Braun, and David Ortiz really let BirdWings down in this matchup. Looking at these two teams before the game was underway, I really thought BirdWings had the advantage, but that’s baseball and that’s why we love the daily game so much.
Vegetable_Lasagna was dominate in this High Stakes Series, and kept it going in the finals. He went through some of the biggest names in Daily Fantasy Baseball, and truly deserves the title of Champion. Don’t take anything away from BirdWings, he defeated one of DraftStreet’s best players in BrettFavre444. He also defeated a very hot TommyG, and came back from a 0-2 start against Msidla.
I want to thank DraftStreet for hosting this tournament, and a lot of the top players for playing in it. It was a lot of fun for me to follow along, and I learned a lot breaking down lineups from these guys. I’m sure this isn’t the last time we will see a high stakes game from DraftStreet, and you can bet we will be here to cover it. Thanks to Notorious for helping me with the coverage of this event, and I hope all of you guys enjoyed following along with us.
