My Initial Thoughts on Both Lineups:

Editor’s Note: I am giving my initial thoughts on these lineups when the game is first released, without any knowledge of the outcome or any results
Adam Jones is the only hitter they both selected. This will be Tommy’s 3rd straight day with Jones in the lineup. I guess the price is right, but he has struggled vs. righties this year.

Pitching Ross is the only pitcher they both agreed on and that’s not a shock. He was the cheapest of the “elite” pitchers tonight. Yes I am calling Ross elite when he is at home. Favre rolled with the leftie combo of Bumgarner/Milone. Hate it. Milone is in a spot to get lit up. Washington mashes lefties. Tommy paid up for Darvish. Nice pick IMO. The matchup is tough but he is the type of pitcher that can mow down any lineup with a huge K game. Also these aces get a little extra life in them when facing a tough team like Boston. Advantage- Tommy by a mile

Hitting I like Favre’s Arizona duo against Rienzo. Also he landed Reyes, Trout and Rasmus all from the Toronto game. I like it because that game has big score potential. He topped it off with always solid Votto and an offensive catcher in McCann. I like this line of hitters he has.
Tommy mini stacked no one. Fine strategy for a cash game if you don’t see something standing out. He landed the big dog Miggy Cabrera on his team who I consider the best offensive player of the night. Beltre is getting hot and he also used his Utility on another big 1st baseman in Edwin Encarnacion. Beckham is a solid low dollar value. De Aza always comes into play if it’s a right hander on the mound and he is in the leadoff spot, which both happen tonight. Advantage- Favre slightly

Overall I am giving the edge to Tommy in a tight one because his pitching seems superior on paper. So far we have seen the guy who was willing to pony up for the ace be the victor in each match. If that holds true to form then Tommy will be the winner Friday night. I know it’s a small sample size, but its strategy worth looking into more.

Breaking Down Favre’s Lineup:

This was a ridiculously low price for a hitter like Joey Votto and Favre saw it. I didn’t even see Votto’s price because he was never on my radar. If a guy isn’t someone I’m already looking at, then those bargains can fly right by me. It pays to be observant. His Toronto/Angels trio paid off nicely. They didn’t even need to score many runs in the actual game to put up nice fantasy numbers. That’s how powerful home runs are in fantasy. The teams combine for a 4-3 game but Reyes and Trout combine for 17 Draftstreet points. Other guys on his offense just filled in and put up positive points and in cash games that’s all you need after your early guys crack a pair of homers. This isn’t GPP ball here.
I was dead wrong on Milone. He was lights out. I would never have pulled the trigger on that guy in a heads up game with that matchup lurking. Bumgarner just did what he does sometimes. He pitched well. The Dodgers are a scary matchup these days but he delivered.

Breaking Down Tommy G’s Lineup:

Darvish rolled. Great performance and racked up a ton of points for Tommy. Well Miggy went from stud to dud tonight with a putrid .25 Draftstreet points. Tommy got a huge game though from Asdrubal to make up for it. My guess is that Asdrubal was one of the last players on this team after he started off with Miggy and Edwin, and then nabbed Jaso vs. the RHP. It feels like he liked Beltre vs Bucholz or else the $6,797 salary would have been too much to pay just for a fill in. Bourjos was a salary saver thrown on out of necessity. De Aza was a bargain in his eyes batting leadoff for under $5K. So my guess is the roster was down to the last 2 players and it was Asdrubal and Bourjos who fit the salary cap.
Here’s a solid fantasy strategy that you can use going forward- When Jason Vargas pitches IN Seattle, take him.

How The Game Played Out:

So the hitters matched up very evenly in this game. It all came down to pitching. Tommy rolled out the biggest ace in this contest and that ace delivered a 22 point performance. The streak of the guy grabbing an ace and surrounding him with 2 lesser dollar, but viable starters, wins again. This is 4 in a row for the “ace” strategy. We’ve got ourselves a tie series headed into Saturday.
