With Tommy G, the self-proclaimed “King of the North” on the verge of pulling the upset vs. the egotistical maniac BrettFavre, Game 6 took place in the Sunday all day set. Sundays can be tricky with early starts, late lineups and no swaps, so let’s take a glance at how these guys handled it.

My Initial Thoughts on Both Lineups:
Editor’s Note: I am giving my initial thoughts on these lineups when the game is first released, without any knowledge of the outcome or any results
Well right off the bat I am really surprised Tommy didn’t play Adam Jones. I guess the price is a bit too high for him now. I see where Tommy attacked some BvP numbers. The Freeman play is strictly a BvP thing. Also David Wright has murdered Hamels so he rolled with him today. He played a 3 man Toronto mini stack. Weaver is susceptible, especially on the road in a small stadium so I can see wanting some Blue Jay exposure; however there are a ton of catchers I like better than Navarro at that price.
For Favre the Joyce and Votto picks are rather predictable. There is nothing in his lineup that I would say is to off the wall. Pretty standard stuff with the righty/lefty matchups. Perhaps he’s feeling the pressure of being in an elimination game and didn’t want to take some of those typical Favre chances.
They used 6 different pitchers but they are very similar. One guy used Tillman and the other used Shelby Miller. They cancel each other out. I think the Erlin and Phelps matchups are another wash. Similar prices and similar upside/downside. Hutchinson v Harang is also in the same price range with similar qualities. Hutchinson more able to rack up K’s at this point, but Harang with the better matchup.
Altogether, before seeing any scores, I am going to give the Game 6 nod to Favre. But I have to say I had to really debate this one. I don’t think there is a clear cut advantage for anyone. I guess ultimately I think Favre toned down his plays today and went safe. I think the safe choices give him more chance at consistency and thus a slight edge.
Breaking Down Favre’s Lineup:
This was a real nice offensive performance out of Favre. He nailed the Parra pick vs. the RHP. Joyce, near the top of the order vs. a RHP, is always a popular play with Favre and he was excellent on Sunday. He got a homerun out of Jason Heyward vs. Edwin Jackson. Heyward is always a threat to go yard against mediocre RHP’s, but he wasn’t on my radar Sunday. Favre really made this game with his OF selections. All 3 hit a homer and combined for over 30 points. The safe selection of Aaron Harang at slightly over $13K paid off nicely. It was a big strikeout game from the Harangatang. I do realize Pinto has been solid this year, but I just thought there were better options that didn’t cost $5K at C. I preferred to play a much cheaper Nieves vs. a LHP myself. With that being said, it was a solid move from a production standpoint for Favre as Pinto had a very nice game.
Breaking Down Tommy G’s Lineup:
Tommy used the mini stack vs. Weaver as discussed earlier. It didn’t work for him as Reyes was owned by both players today so that left him with Navarro and Melky netting him less than 3 points. Actually Reyes was his highest scoring player and since he was in the overlap, it did him no good. Tommy’s offense just went dead today. On Draftstreet you get negative points for a K. So you have to take that into consideration in cash games, even if only slightly crossing your mind. Tommy totaled 8 K’s today from his hitters. That’s a monster negative step back in your point total when that happens. Sometimes it’s best not to chase home runs in cash games vs. pitchers who have strikeout potential. In GPP’s its all fair game as you’re chasing a prize vs. numerous teams. However in a H2H you gotta watch that stuff.
Tommy’s hitters were bad and his pitchers were worse. They all had decent enough upside but they all just fell very short today in below average performances.
How The Game Played Out:
I’m actually a bit shocked that neither person selected Kershaw. I know he was expensive, but he was the only hands down ace throwing Sunday IMO. We’ve seen this game be won by the guy who chooses the ace almost every game thus far and no one wanted to spend on Kershaw Sunday. I think that changes in Monday’s finale. The difference in this game was utter domination at the hitters spot for Favre. When your hitters outscore your opponents entire team then the game is over before it even starts.
This series has never been more than a 1 game advantage for either guy, so it’s been very evenly matched thus far and a game 7 was inevitable. Game 7 should be fun. Favre is putting up some nice point totals but let’s give Tommy credit also. Favre plays solely on this site. Tommy has never played on this site. Favre just knocked off one of the best fantasy baseball minds in the world( Hixville) last series, so for Tommy to have him in the same spot is a big accomplishment. The series before that, let’s not forget that Favre put a 4-1 beat-down on a hot STL Cards. I mean it was 1-0 Cards and in the blink of an eye, poof, 4 straight and done for Favre.
Don’t worry though Cards, The King of the North has stated on Twitter that he will defend your honor and he has a chance to do it in a Game 7. Buckle up boys, and tune into the social media for the fireworks today.
