I wish it was Christmas so we all could get some more candyCAINs. Bad Joke I know, let’s get to the reason you guys are all here. Welcome to the game 2 recap between Hixvillehunk and Brettfavre444.

My Initial Thoughts On Both Lineups:
The first thing I noticed tonight, there was a lot of player overlap between the two players. For the second straight night both players faded the COL/ARI game. Once again tonight they have 2 of the same pitchers, and Hixville paid up again for his 3rd starter. Favre went with a more balanced approach for his hitters tonight.
Breaking Down Favre’s Lineup:
- Favre wasn’t going to let Posey beat him again tonight, and decided to pay up for the plus matchup he has. Anytime Posey is facing a left handed pitcher he is in play, and this is a great move by Favre.
- He was a big fan of the right handed bats for the Nationals today, and he should be as they are facing a struggling left handed pitcher tonight. Hixville also has Rendon/Desmond but Favre decided to pay up for Werth’s power tonight. I think Werth is a great option to spend up for tonight, and so far I’m really liking what Favre’s lineup looks like tonight.
- I’m a big fan of the Cespedes play tonight, and even though he was a little pricey on DraftStreet I think he was a good play. Ross is giving up a .379 wOBA to right handed hitters at home this season. I can totally see why Favre decided to pay up for Cespedes.
- The one thing I don’t like about Favre’s lineup tonight, Drew Hutchison is a real reach for a cash game play. He was able to save the cap to pay up for an extra hitter or two, but I think Hutchinson is in a tough spot tonight.
Breaking Down Hixvillehunk’s Lineup:
- I like the fact that he payed up for Hudson tonight, and I think he should be able to give him an advantage. Hudson has one of the lowest WHIPs in baseball this season, and on a site where you lose points for walks and hits, I think Hudson was a great play for his price today.
- I’m not a big fan of paying up for expensive hitters against good pitching. I don’t like the Beltre play against Chavez tonight, and would have liked to see him spend that money elsewhere.
- He decided to target Hutchison, with 2 hot bats in Perez and Gordon. This is going to be good or bad for him tonight with Favre having Hutchinson. Perez and Gordon have both been swinging the bat well, and the last 7 day stats really back up these two plays.
- Hixville used Springer as his cheap punt play tonight, and I think he makes for a good punt play. Springer has good upside and is batting in the 4 spot for Houston tonight. Having a 4 hitter at 3.6k is an extreme value, and I don’t think the matchup really matters at that point.
How The Game Played Out:
- For the second straight night Hixville was able to outscore Favre with his pitching. It didn’t matter tonight though, Favre was able to use the money he saved to overcome the pitching deficit. Both guys had Tony Cingrani and his bad start didn’t hurt either one of them.
- Favre nailed his hitting tonight, and Cespedes really put him over the top tonight. I really liked this play against Robbie Ross, and it ended up being the difference maker of the contest tonight. Anthony Rendon had a big game as well tonight, but was used by both players in this contest.
- Hixvillehunk didn’t get any production out of his Kanas City guys, and his value play didn’t do anything. Adrian Beltre was in a tough spot tonight, and I still don’t understand why he paid up for him. He had $18,347 invested in 4 players that scored .25, and with the overlap they had, this is what beat Hixville tonight.
- With the money Favre saved taking 2 cheap pitchers tonight, he only had to take 1 hitter under 5k tonight. Chris Johnson was his cheap option, and even though he scored 0 points it really didn’t hurt Favre tonight. Going balanced with the rest of his hitters is the reason he won tonight.
- Final thoughts of this round, Favre’s more balanced approach with his hitters paid off tonight. Hixville nailed the Hudson pick tonight, but just didn’t get enough from his value hitters. I liked Hixville’s decision in paying up for the 3rd pitcher, but hated the Beltre pick. I wasn’t a fan of the Hutchison pick from Favre, but his hitters put him over the top.
