High Stakes Scene: Hix vs. Favre Game 6

Welcome to the recap of round 6 between Hixvillehunk and Brettfavre444. Hixville is going to look to build off his win last night, and try to make a 3-1 come back. Favre is going to look for a bounce back after a horrible showing last night.

My Initial Thoughts On Both Lineups:

I’m really liking both of these teams tonight, but I’m going to give an edge to Favre. I like his pitching core more than I like Hixville’s. I think both players targeted hitters in plus mtyachups, and this is going to be one of the most competitive days we’ve seen.

Breaking Down Favre’s Lineup:

1) Favre went with 3 solid pitchers today, and finally went back to not picking pitchers against each other. Both players choose Gio Gonzalez, and I think he is an excellent pick today. Ross has a decent matchup today against the Diamonbacks, as they really hit left handed pitching better than right. If Ross is able to get some run support, he should be able to pick up a win at Petco today. Alex Wood has been quietly becoming a really good pitcher, but doesn’t have the best matchup today. This should be a low scoring game, but picking up a win against Bumgarner might be very hard to do.

2) Favre decided to target Andre Rienzo, he took 3 Cleveland left handed hitters. Chisenhall and Swisher were priced as good plays for the matchup, but I think I don’t think I would have paid the 6.6k price tag for Murphy. With Hixville not having any of these guys, Favre could have a huge advantage if the Indians get to Rienzo.

3) Dickerson, Wright, and Cano are where he decided to spend on hitters today. I really like McHugh today, but can totally understand why he picked Cano. Cano was Emac’s top option at 2B today, and is always in play against a right handed pitcher. Dickerson is in the lineup today, and faces Gee who has been pitching really well this season. Dickerson is batting in the 7 spot today, and Gee’s 1.07 WHIP would scare me for paying his price tag. Favre is factoring the Coors effect into this pick big time. David Wright has been heating up and his price is still really low. I’m a huge fan of this pick facing a pitcher just coming off the DL, and as a former pitcher, first starts are always the hardest coming back from injury.

4) Jaso and Mercer are the two value plays he decided to use today. I think Mercer was just a straight up punt play to fit the rest of his players in, but I really don’t like doing that on a site where strikeouts count against you. Jaso is in a great spot against the righty on the mound, and he’s 6 for 15 in his career off Lackey. Jaso has been swinging the bat really well today, and is a great cheap catcher for today.

Breaking Down Hixvillehunk’s Lineup:

1) Hixville has the other side of Alex Wood today, Bumgarner is a good strikeout pitcher and the Braves like to strikeout. Bumgarner’s ERA isn’t the best this season, but he’s still managing a 9.89 K/9 rate right now. I like Bumgarner to pick up the win over Wood today. I don’t like the Skaggs play at all today, and think the Rangers will rough him up a bit. The Rangers as a team hit left handed pitcher much better, and this could be a deciding factor in this matchup.

2) He targeted the left hand Mets today, and like I said above I think it’s very smart to target a pitcher coming back from the DL. Murphy has always hit right handed pitchers better in his career, but I’m not liking his price at 7.1k today. He did use him as a utility spot, so he might have felt comfortable with the extra cap he had. Duda and Granderson were both under 6k today, and like Murphy hit right handed pitching much better. This game had the highest O/U on the day, and I think these guys could decide the outcome of this matchup.

3) Longoria and Myers were very underpriced today, and unfortunately Myers was taken by both players. Hixville living up to his BvP reputation took Longo, Longo has been fantastic in his career against CC. I think all the right handed bats for the Rays are in play today, and Longo/Myers are my top two options.

4) Yelich, Reyes, and Castro all have plus matchups today, and there’s really not a hitter I don’t like on Hixville’s team today. Castro gets to face a right handed pitcher that’s really struggling to start the season, and is my top option at catcher today. Yelich is a great value play today, and is leading off against Fife. Fife is getting the start today with Ryu heading to the DL, and that’s really the only reason they’re calling him up from the Minors. Volquez has started the season off pitching really well, but I think he’s pitching over his head. I like all the Blue Jays again today, and love Reyes’ upside today leading off.

How The Game Played Out:

1) We have a ballgame ladies and gents, and as a person whose following this very closely, I’m actually excited where going to a game 7. Like the NBA playoffs I think this game 7 will come down to the wire.

2) Pitching actually went exactly how I thought it was going to go. Gonzalez pitched a good game for both players, but didn’t pick up the win. Ross and Wood both had average games for Favre, but neither of them were able to pick up the win. Ross was able to get the run support and had a 3-1 lead, but had a bad inning and left the game in a 3-3 tie. Bumgarner looked very good in his start today and was able to shut the Braves down for 6 innings and pick up the win. This was big for Hixville because Favre had Wood. Tyler Skaggs got shelled by the Rangers today, and ended up only pitching 2 2/3 innings. I’m very surprised Hixville was able to overcome the -5 Skaggs put up today.

3) The Cleveland 3 player stack was outscored by the Mets 3 man stack, 15.75 to 9.75. I liked both of these plays today, but Swisher really struggled at the plate today. Chisenhall was a great value play for Favre today, but it just wasn’t enough. Murphy only score 1.75, and really hurt Favre with his price being so high. Murphy paid for his high price tag, and the Mets were able to ruin the Chacin come back start today.

4) Wright had a pretty good fantasy day today, but was only 1 for 5 at the plate. Jaso had his first bad game in over a week, and Dickerson really didn’t perform for his price. Castro, Yelich, and Longoria were all able to show up for Hixville today. Yelich turned out to be a great value play today, and Longoria continued to hit CC, I wish he was able to throw more innings in this game. Castro had a really slow start to the game, but was able to save his day with a late RBI single.

5) Final Thoughts, Favre was able to beat Hixville with his pitching today, but Hix returned the favor in a big way with his hitters. Hixville was able to get at least 3.25 from all of hitters today, and for people that play on Draftstreet you know how hard that is. Favre’s top plays didn’t do enough for him today, and was the deciding factor in this matchup. Both players were able to put up good scores today, but Hixville really had a great day. I’ve really enjoyed writing these recaps, and I’m super excited for game 7 tomorrow night.
