Introducing: Splits and Lineups

We all know fantasy baseball is a game involving statistics, numbers and data. There is a lot of information you can sift through while constructing any MLB lineup, sometimes too much. With the help of our latest update to RotoGrinders, we’ve consolidated a good majority of that information onto two convenient pages on RotoGrinders. We hope that there’s no longer a need for you to have eighteen-some-odd tabs open at a time just to choose your Catcher for the day, and that you can get all of your research done on just RG for MLB season. The newest component we’ve added for MLB is Splits. Let’s take a quick look at how to use splits on RotoGrinders, and how they can help you set your MLB lineup:

Splits Page

The Daily Fantasy MLB Splits Page can be found at the top of RotoGrinders in the blue bar. On this page you get access to the information explained below. Multiple stat categories are displayed for each split, and each category displays the stats in a sortable table which allows you to choose what stats you want to look at. The last column gives you a projected FPPG (fantasy points per game) or ber AB (at bat).

BvP

BvP stands for “Batter vs. Pitcher”. This split provides you with the historical data for each hitter vs. the pitcher they are facing today. We update this page daily based on matchups.

BvP is an important factor to consider when choosing your hitter. While there is a lot of variance in any baseball performance day-to-day, an AB count of around 8 or more, should provide you with reliable data as to how that hitter will perform today.

Lefty/Righty

We think the next most telling split after BvP is Lefty/Righty. Lefty/Righty tells you how well a hitter does when facing any pitcher with the same throwing hand as the pitcher they are facing that evening.

For instance, if Derek Jeter is facing Stephen Strasburg tonight, RotoGrinders will provide you with Derek Jeter career stats vs. right-handed pitchers.

Home/Away

The Home/Away split is important because each ballpark has different lengths and dynamics, and depending on the team, you can have noticeable differences when playing home or away. Use this split to adjust certain players values for that day depending on if they at home in their hitter-friendly park, or if they are on the road hitting in more difficult stadiums than their usual situation.

Day/Night

Baseball games are often held during the afternoon and evening. The Day/Night split gives you the historical performances of each player based on the time of their game today.

For instance, tonight Ryan Braun plays at 8:10 PM, or a night game. During night games he averages 6.8 FPPG (or 1.55 FPPAB). This is above his average ppg, making him a stronger play than usual tonight.

Lineups Page: Now With Splits

In addition to the brand, spanking new splits page, we’ve integrated splits into the Lineups page you’ve grown to know and love. It’s now jam-packed with enough features, that it might be the only MLB Research page you need to build your lineups.

With splits now implemented into the lineups page you can now get access to each of the splits mentioned above directly from the lineups page. Simply click the BvP, vs. L, vs. R, Home, Away, Day or Night links directly below the name of each team. When you click this, you’ll immediately be shown an organized pop-up featuring the players who are slated to play for that team that day with the correct split. For instance, if the Mets are facing Tim Lincecum at home at 4:10 PM EST, you’ll see a quick-link for BvP, vs. R (righty), Home and Day.

Having access to all of these splits in addition to the lineups, projections, weather, and customized site pricing makes for an extremely efficient way to build your lineups.
