2024 John Deere Classic Forecast and Projections

We’re teeing off for the John Deere Classic in Silvis, IL, and we’ve got a mixed bag of weather. Some good…some bad.

ComboPGAcomparison

As usual in my golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts. With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try to highlight the time frame with the lightest winds and the time frame with the strongest winds to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another. You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on DFS sites and sportsbooks.

John Deere Classic Weather Forecast

Thursday, July 4th

Not a bad Independence Day forecast. Light winds to start, peak afternoon winds of around 10 MPH, and a low chance of seeing some rain. It’s likely we hold off on seeing any of Mother Nature’s Fireworks (i.e. lightning / rain delay).

Friday, July 5th

Winds start picking up. 10 MPH in the early morning, 15 MPH by the late morning, and that should climb to 15-20 MPH with gusts of 25-30 MPH by the afternoon. Another chance for showers or storms, but not a very high chance.

Saturday, July 6th

Pretty solid day. There are some indications it could be a “reverse day,” with higher winds in the morning than afternoon, but at no point does it look as windy as Friday.

Sunday, July 7th

A bit ugly to close it out. Winds will build throughout the day, peaking in the afternoon around 15 MPH sustained with stronger gusts. We also have our best chance of the tournament for showers and storms.

John Deere Classic Weather Thoughts

I’m a bit conflicted here, but my lean is a Thursday PM / Friday AM build. That build allows you to avoid the worst of the winds (Friday afternoon) but also misses out on the best weather of tournament (Thursday morning).
