KCommentary: Monkey in the Middle
Monkey in the Middle
‘Of the Drama’
About the Writer: Kevin “kcearnal” Cearnal lives and works in the most dangerous city in the country, St. Louis, Missouri. He has obtained the nickname ‘KC’ throughout the daily fantasy community due to the confusing nature of his aforementioned screen name and his overall ‘hoodness’. He has no sport of expertise and has the distinction of being the most recognizable loser in the industry. ‘KC’ works as Communication Coordinator for a not-for-profit foundation and the sports teams which he most enjoys include the St. Louis Cardinal and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
For those of you who read this article regularly you may have noticed that last week’s article was somewhat hostile. It was brought to my attention that I may have come down harshly on fellow Grinder: ‘ToughMonkeys32’. For this, I apologize. I have moved past the matter and hopefully all can be forgiven.
With that being said…I’m going to keep this thing short and sweet this week. I wouldn’t want to offend anyone else. I’ll do my best to keep it at G-rating. That’s ‘G’ as in: Curious G eorge.

9 | primetime420 | 340 | $80.00 |
9 | cascaa | 340 | $80.00 |
Three spots in the top 10 is quite impressive and only further builds the NBA resume for primetime420. He’s been quite hot lately, and seems to show up on nearly every leaderboard for these big tourneys. But seriously, all monkey business aside…What advice can I offer the man who seems to know everything? Well that’s easy: “Get a bank account with good interest rates, because at your winning rate your gonna wanna make the most of your earnings.”
You’re Welcome.
2. Friday NBA DUNK Analysis – Some familiar names Show Up
Pos | User | Score | Winnings |

9 | Dbirocci | 287 | $125.00 |
10 | kobebeef | 286 | $112.50 |
Four out of 10 is not too bad at all! Rotogrinder regulars jl9000, tonycpros911, hatorade and dbirocci all put together stacked teams that put them amongst the highest scores of the evening. These are the kind of performances I love to see. A bunch of names I know. Good job gang. You deserve a pat on the back. Way to be serious and not monkey around.
3. Friday NBA REBOUND Analysis – Not Too Pretty
Pos | User | Score | Winnings |
---|---|---|---|
1 | captaintank | 298 | $200.00 |
2 | drugpimp | 295 | $150.00 |
3 | six8 | 294 | $100.00 |
4 | sprtsnut4ever | 293 | $75.00 |
5 | Dbirocci | 287 | $75.00 |
6 | lakings25 | 286 | $50.00 |
6 | kobebeef | 286 | $50.00 |
8 | smoyer16 | 282 | $50.00 |
8 | emge | 282 | $50.00 |
10 | phillykid | 281 | $40.00 |
This kind of leaderboard is very disappointing. I am not sure if you all were focused on the DUNK or what?! But seeing only one Grinder in the top 10 is definitely a big let down. Lets get the monkey off our backs next week.
4. Saturday NBA REBOUND Analysis – Grizzled Vets Crack the Top 10
Pos | User | Score | Winnings |
---|---|---|---|
1 | ruelfal | 312 | $200.00 |
2 | alejandro187 | 300 | $150.00 |
3 | captaintank | 293 | $100.00 |
4 | goducks | 288 | $75.00 |
5 | zookerman182 | 286 | $75.00 |
6 | hustlematic | 279 | $50.00 |
7 | Headchopper | 277 | $50.00 |
8 | ballgameted | 275 | $50.00 |
9 | moookie4me | 273 | $50.00 |
10 | moookie4me | 272 | $40.00 |
Zookerman182 and Headchopper are two of the most recognized grinders in the fantasy games industry and they both managed to put together good enough squads to enter the top 10 on Saturday. I finished a disappointing 37th in this tourney thanks to some poor PF performances. I hope to bounce back next week. I’m going to watch Headchopper and Zookerman closely and perform the old adage of ‘Monkey See, Monkey Do.’
5. Weekly Zeroes:
- Wednesday – Kevin Love [22 FD Points] – He put up a double-double yes. But 10/10 wasn’t exactly what we were looking for when we paid for his huge price tag. His worst performance of the year thus far. I don’t think there’s any stock in it but it surely did ruin many people’s nights on Wednesday.
- Friday – Michael Beasley [5 FD Points] – Great matchup versus a soft Raptors interior was ruined due to injury. This kept me from cashing on Friday. I’ve been saying I got ‘Bam-Beasley-ed.’ Trying to make it a thing.
- Saturday – Derrick Rose – [20 FD Points] – This is just atrocious for him. He had a great matchup against the Warriors and couldn’t seem to hold on to the ball. He almost had double-digit turnovers (9) and that combined with only 14 points made for a very disappointing performance.
6. Weekly Heroes
Wednesday – Kevin Durant [60 FD Points] – Absolute Stud. Almost a must have on a nightly basis. His rebounding numbers are increasing dramatically as well, which makes him all the more studly. Isn’t that right Cam?
Friday – Amir Johnson [47 FD Points] – The Raptors seem to have at least one fantasy stud on a nightly basis. The hard part is trying to figure out who it will be. Keep watching to box scores in Toronto to see if this guy can emerge as a consistent fantasy player.
Saturday – Paul Millsap [50 FD Points] – This guy went into a lull for quite a while but he is starting to reemerge as a fantasy relevant player once again. He has a moderate price tag so keep an eye on him moving forward to see if he and the Jazz can get rolling.
7. Looking Forward
The Large Tourneys are going to keep happening on FanDuel. I must admit that I absolutely love these things. The thought of bringing home the big payday keeps me coming back. Kudos to FanDuel for creating and maintaining these. They’re almost as fun as playing on the monkey bars.
Large Tourneys have been formed at Sportsgeek. This was their ‘specialty’ for football and I expect nothing less for NBA. There are still a few bugs to be worked out but overall these contests are unique and fun. Make sure you give them a try.
Other than that all I can say is enjoy the week. Everyone put on your monkey suits and do some business this week. Bring home some bacon…or should I say bananas?
