KCs Weekend Preview: October 26th
Hello RG Nation. It’s nice to see you again.
Let me start by saying that if I had written something last week, I would have pointed you in the direction of guys like Maurice Jones-Drew and Darren McFadden. I then once again would have been horribly wrong, felt terrible for steering you down a dark path, and gotten little to no sleep. So in short I’m glad I omitted this preview column.
This has led me to think about what should actually be included in this week’s edition. And after some thought, let me tell you I think I’ve got something brilliant figured out for you fellas.
What I’m going to do for CFB and NFL analysis this week is to literally do a 180 for you guys within the context of the article. You see the whole point here is that I’m trying to change things up due to the recent run of awfulness. So with this in mind, I’m going to give you a selection that the ‘Old KC’ would have made at each position, followed by the guy that the ‘New KC’ is going to take this weekend.
It will be a whole new me, hopefully leading to a breakthrough and some big-time money this weekend.
Keep reading and I’m sure you will catch on.
College Football
QB the ‘Old KC’ would have taken:
- Marcus Mariota (OREGON) –
Seems like a no-brainer. The Buffaloes are terrible in every aspect of Defense and the Ducks Offense is unstoppable. Mariota has a somewhat high, but affordable pricetag. One would think there is no way he can do anything but put up a respectable score. Shoe-in safety pick for the old KC. I don’t have him once this week.
QB the ‘New KC’ is taking:
- Denard Robinson (MICH) –
He’s flashy. He’s inconsistent. He’s perfect for the new breed of team that is part of my new lifestyle. But in all honesty Denard is really not a bad play. Nebraska doesn’t have the vaunted Defense this year that has been featured in years past. In fact they are allowing close to 30 points a game. Denard’s price is respectable and his huge game potential is undeniable. He will be heavily featured as QB in this week’s lineups.
WR the ‘Old KC’ would have taken:
- Cobi Hamilton (ARK) –
Everyone that has watched a Razorbacks game this year knows that Wilson stairs down Hamilton like Cam does the ‘Tebow Issue’ of GQ. He is an absolute target machine, and they take on an Ole Miss squad allowing more than 30 PPG to SEC competition this season. Again, this seams like an easy selection for Saturday. So it’s a no-go.
WR the ‘new KC’ is taking:
- Donte Moncrief (MISS) –
Turn around and look at the other side of the field for this contest and you’ll find the all-or-nothing WR perfect for my new squad. The stat lines are up and down all season for the Sophomore WR, but when Ole Miss needs a big play he is the guy they lean on. I figure they will need a couple this week as they try to keep pace on the road. Count me in here.
RB the ‘Old KC’ would have taken:
- Marcus Lattimore (SCAR) –
The only real risk here is Lattimore’s health. But reports all week are saying he is 100% and ready to go. Assuming full health, this is the kind of pick the old me would have made in a heartbeat. A terrible Volunteer run defense against a moderately priced premiere back? This would have previously been a guy and matchup that I would have had everywhere… but not this week.
RB the ‘New KC’ is taking:
- D’Anthony Thomas (ORE) –
No bigger wild card in the all of NCAA football than the Black Mamba. If he gets his touches before the blowout is completed (most-likely halftime) then he could be a top 5 scorer. If he fails to break one, he could bring heartbreak and huge $$ losses. Sounds Perfect.
FLEX the ‘Old KC’ would have taken:
- RUNNING BACK –
On sites that offer a flex position, I have always always always prescribed to the theory of filling the spot with a RB. ‘Guaranteed Touches’ is a bit of a cliché, but it really is a philosophy that the ‘safe KC’ was using. This week I’m switching it up.
FLEX the ‘New KC’ is taking:
- WIDE RECEIVER –
Obviously this is the must riskier maneuver as far as FLEX selection goes. You are not guaranteed a single thing when you select a wideout and if the game unfolds improperly you could be left staring at a very low score. But on the other side of the coin, a couple big plays could lead you straight to the promise land. That’s where I hope to be come weekends end.
NFL:
QB the ‘Old KC’ would have taken:
- Peyton Manning (DEN) –
Peyton has been carving people up circa 2008 for the last few games. The Saints have been allowing more points than anyone over this same time period. On the surface, this looks like the perfect storm for a vintage Manning performance. But if this year of DFS has taught me anything it’s that nothing is obvious. So I’m going to trend away from Peyton on Sunday despite the telltale signs in front of me.
QB the ‘New KC’ is taking:
- Philip Rivers (SD) –
It has been my belief for a while now that Rivers is the ‘Sammy Sosa’ of the NFL. By this I mean that he performs the best in the games that mean the least. Sammy always seemed to hit HRs in 8-1 contests that were already decided. River always seems to throw 4 TDs in games that matter very little. I think the Cleveland Browns qualify. Rolling him out heavy on Sunday.
WR the ‘Old KC’ would have taken:
- Mike Wallace (PIT) –
Pittsburgh’s Running Back situation is a mess. The Redskins secondary is a mess. Wallace is Big Bens favorite target. This is one of those ‘ideal scenarios’ for a big game that I usually try to identify. But thinking like this has gotten me into trouble, so with that being said I’m going to lean on other receivers besides Wallace this Sunday.
WR the ‘new KC’ is taking:
- Wes Welker (NE) –
The Patriots are confusing. Bill Belichick has some new clever scheme every week that features someone new. There is no way to tell who this will be and its typically an avoid type of scenario for me. BUT what is known is that their offense is going to score points. And we now know that Hernandez will not be a part of the equation (out with ankle injury). And lastly we know that slot-receiver Randall Cobb torched the Rams last week. Looks like a good week to be gutsy, take a shot on Welker and hope he emerges as ‘the guy’ in jolly ol’ England.
RB the ‘Old KC’ would have taken:
- Jamaal Charles (KC) –
Oh Jamaal. You are such a sexy pick this week it’s not even funny. The Raiders can’t stop anybody, especially on the road. You’ve been remarkably consistent outside of one game. And you have the MONSTER game potential the old KC loved. But you’re just TOO obvious of a choice, and I therefore must pass.
RB the ‘New KC’ is taking:
- Chris Johnson (TEN) –
This guy is absolutely terrifying. He has been on my ‘no-play list’ since week 2. There’s no better time to take him off this list than the week I’m making all my big changes. It’s undeniable that the potential for a huge game is here… Only question is has he turned over a new leaf like I have, or will he be the same old ‘flop-tastic’ CJ2K?
NBA:
In NBA news, there are actual NBA DFS contests starting on Tuesday.
Seems like the season snuck up on us here, and to be perfectly honest I am not prepared in any way to offer advice.
What I do know is that lots of sites will be offering large tip-off GPPs and possibly even some deposit bonuses (???) to correlate with NBA beginning so be on the lookout there.
I also promise to make an attempt at getting my sh*t together this weekend so I can offer some concrete facts and potential advice possibly as soon as my Review article on Tuesday.
So that is just about everything that the ‘New KC’ has to offer for this week from a DFS perspective. If you didn’t realize it while reading, the CFB and NFL analysis is really just a comparison of ‘safe’ and ‘bold’ plays for the week. I really feel that all the picks presented are respectable selections. You can choose any amongst them based upon how ballsy you are feeling. If you couldn’t tell by the context, I’m at a point of no return and am going balls-to-the-wall with everything this week. I’d love for you to join me.
Any who, I hope the new me has been in some way enlightening. And I guess we will all find out soon enough if the new me is profitable.
Forever changed –
KC
