kirkdiese: How I'm Using PlateIQ and LineupHQ to Attack Smaller-Field GPPs Tonight

This article is part of a new series in which we will examine winning tournament strategies from top tournament players. We’ll focus on how you can use RotoGrinders Premium tools to replicate the concepts and strategies deployed by some of the best GPP minds.

Today’s contributor is Chris Kirkwood, better known as kirkdiese on DFS sites. Among his many GPP wins, he is on a streak of nice success in smaller-field GPPs in recent weeks. This includes a second-place finish last night on DraftKings. We asked Chris to talk about his process in these smaller fields, and the tools at RotoGrinders he uses to follow his process. The purpose is to give you insight on what has worked during his hot streak, in hopes of giving you ideas and alternatives that might work with your game.

Baseball is changing right before our eyes and continues to evolve into more of a boom-or-bust game. Home runs are at a record high, along with strikeouts and walks. Pitching is greatly improved, there are fewer balls in play, and defensive shifts are covering up defensive weaknesses. The great Dave Potts (CheeseIsGood) wrote about this in his Million Dollar Musings on Monday, April 22nd.

This got me thinking a lot about my own process and what I’m looking for with my lineup builds, and I came to a very basic conclusion: I want strikeouts from my pitchers and home runs from my hitters. Groundbreaking, I know, but really I’ve been using this approach successfully since last season on Yahoo, which consists of mainly smaller field contests, anywhere from 6-to-100 man fields, and employing the strategy of high strikeout pitchers paired with the best value bats that have home run upside and not to worry about stacking unless it comes naturally.
