With Diamondprox long gone, the departures of Fox and Steeelback may prove too much for the Unicorns to overcome. Off to a poor start against FC Elements, I mean Schalke 04, UOL may be in for a long season. While I am not against the idea that this team will come together in time, I’m not sold that it will be soon enough that they make any noise in the regular season. There’s enough talent here to live to fight on in next year’s Spring Split, but can they make waves now? This is a big opportunity for the team. Origen’s struggles during the spring aren’t gone from memory and they need to prove that they are capable of handily beating teams like Unicorns of Love, which may not bet he case.

Origen do remain the favorite here. I’m personally seeing a split series, but some Origen exposure is still going to be desirable. The team was competitive against G2 on Thursday and that’s about all anybody can hope for right now against Europe’s powerhouse team. It’s worth noting that PowerOfEvil did play both of Origen’s games and as long as that continues, the worry of xPeke ruining your fantasy day should diminish. I’d still exercise discretion and not be all-in on POE in any format until further notice.

Unicorns of Love

Elite Plays

None.

Secondary Plays

Viziscacsi (DK $5,500, AD $7,300) – This is about the only appealing play we’re going to find from the pink side of the Rift. The Unicorn top laner was relatively reliable fantasy option during the spring and draws a matchup against spring fantasy dud sOAZ.

Origen

Elite Plays

Forg1ven (DK $7,900, AD $7,700) – Until we learn more about the new identity of this Origen team, we would be wise to stick with what we’ve seen all year – that they need to be carried by their ADC to stand a chance. It’s a new ADC now, but they will still be relying on Forg1ven just as they were with Zven.

Secondary Plays

Amazing (AD $7,200) – I’m never going to be much of an Amazing fan as he simply doesn’t have an exciting style, nor does he regularly put up big numbers. Still, Origen prices are generous on AlphaDraft and they have legitimate sweep upside.

Both of these teams came away with series splits on Thursday, each pulling the upset in their opening games against H2k and Vitality, respectively. In turn, they were both dismantled in the second games and we’re left to wonder if they were simply game one anomalies. With ROCCAT, I’m more inclined to believe that they are ready to take a step forward this split. They made positive additions to their roster from the Spring Split and were arguably the best early game team in the league earlier this year. Constant mid to late game problems had them continuously dropping games that could have been wins, and should be throughout the summer. Ultimately they’re still not a top tier team in Europe, but are no longer relegation fodder.

Splyce still is. A win over Vitality to force the split is a solid start for Splyce, so taking advantage of the word that Vitality hasn’t been playing well in scrims is nice to see. They’re still Splyce and the team’s roster doesn’t compare favorably even against other lower tier teams like ROCCAT. As far as fantasy goes, Splyce players aren’t entirely off limit, but a 2-0 win and big fantasy scores is very unlikely. Really, ROCCAT players should be the target, especially in cash games if they can be had at reasonable prices.

Splyce

Elite Plays

None.

Secondary Plays

Sencux (DK $6,600, AD $7,000) – Sencux has been the only Splyce player who I’ve returned to as a play on more than one occasion this year and that doesn’t change now. Splyce can force a split here a decent amount of the time, and a Sencux explosion isn’t out of the question if they do. ROCCAT mid laner Betsy is in the same class at Sencux and it’s a lane matchup that could go either way.

ROCCAT

Elite Plays

Parang (DK $6,600, AD $7,100) – With others flocking to the more known commodities of the top lane, we may be better served to go with the new player instead. Parang played relatively well in his debut and top lane options that come affordable, with 2-0 possibility aren’t particularly easy to find.

Steeelback (DK $7,500, AD $7,700) – The third ‘e’ is still a mystery, but the price is worth all three. ROCCAT may have found what was missing by adding Steeelback. He’s not an elite ADC in Europe and we shouldn’t oversell who he is, but he’s better than ROCCAT has had and more than capable of putting up monster numbers, as he did as much as anyone during the spring.

Welcome to the beatdown of the afternoon. What is there to say here? The chances of Giants making this competitive are very low, and the chances of them stealing a game are even lower. Oddly enough, Giants best performances in their pair of games against Fnatic ended with Fnatic winning in 35 minutes and with 23 kills. In game 2? Another 25 kills for Fnatic. You can already guess that there’s likely to be a pair of “None.” comments found where Giants player picks would be listed, but how do we determine which G2 players to play?

On the one hand, if we knew we were getting another 48 Giants deaths, we’d stack every single G2 member and ride our way to the easiest fantasy day of our life. Not so fast, though. Who’s to say Giants won’t turn into Splyce over night, and simply roll over for a pair of quick G2 victories and only, say, 25 deaths? G2 exposure is mandatory here, but I am expressing caution to you. If you stack G2 and pay down elsewhere, you are at severe risk of low scoring blowouts. Pick your spots.

G2 Esports

Elite Plays

Perkz (DK $8,400, AD $8,300) – To me, this is your big play from G2. Zven is Zven, but is new and should be seeking to be a team player, not step right into the carry first role he was with Origen. That leaves Perkz as the go to gold, damage and kill man.

Secondary Plays

I mean. Everyone. But mostly Trick. In all seriousness, you should be looking to spread your G2 exposure across your lineups. If playing cash, I recommend having a mixture of Trick, Perkz and even Zven on both sites.

Thankfully, this match happens to take place at the same time as our previous one. Be sure to watch this one, as it’s sure to be competitive and telling. Firstly, Vitality came out of the gates looking like they’d forgotten the season began today, scoring just a single kill in their opening game against Splyce. They did rebound well to defeat Splyce with a 10,000 gold lead in the second game of the series, with Cabochard playing the Cabochard role and looking like Europe’s best leader and top laner. I remain optimistic about this team regardless of the split against Splyce and will be looking to mix them into some of my teams even against Fnatic.

With Fnatic and the return of Yellowstar, the community is ripe with optimism about Fnatic returning to its former glory. I share the optimism to a degree, just less so. This is still a Fnatic team which finished the Spring Split at 9-9 and the only change was Yellowstar, who was TSM’s weakest link. Is the change of scenery really enough to propel Yellowstar back into Yellowstardom? I am not sold, to say the least. He’s an improvement over their sping supports, but that’s about it. A sweep against Vitality would be a big step toward convincing me that they are back to the Fnatic of old.

Team Vitality

Elite Plays

Cabochard (DK $6,000) – This is a DraftKings only play, and it’s on the risky side of things. He’s extremely overpriced for this match on AlphaDraft, but I’m just stubborn enough to believe he can show Europe that Fnatic isn’t who they think they are. Gamsu is now Fnatic’s weak spot and he faces off against a Vitality team who needs Cabochard to win. He’s not going to pull out the Lucian top to try to carry, that’s out of the question, but he will still be the focal point.

Secondary Plays

None.

Fnatic

Elite Plays

Febiven (DK $7,400, AD $7,800) – More reasonably priced than I would have thought, Febiven is a fairly easy go to on this slate on either site. I’m far more inclined to stick with Febi as my primary Fnatic player on most slates over Rekkles, who still needs to prove that he is the elite European ADC that the community believes he is. Febi is reliable in play and in fantasy.

Secondary Plays

Spirit (DK $6,300, AD $7,400) – Throughout the early part of this year, I often wrote about Spirit as the talented newcomer to Europe and he regularly found his way into my lineups. It didn’t work. Still, here I am continuing to stick with it, because he’s too good of a player to not be putting up big scores against European competition. Vitality is tough and expectations are tempered this week which leaves him as a secondary player. I expect his play to finally reach the level it was supposed to during the spring, though.

Freeze came right out last week and said that he is going to prove that he’s better than former H2k ADC Forg1ven. While that may ultimately prove true, it certainly did not appear to be the case on the opening day of the season. Statistics don’t have a ton of meaning with a sample size of two games, so take these with a grain of salt, but a 45% KP, 19% damage share and a gold share of 23% are all rock bottom for any ADC. Schalke is an opponent that can be had, despite their 2-0 win yesterday, and I will be closely watching Freeze to see how he responds to yesterday’s disaster.

Schalke showed up strong to begin the season and many will notice that. I am skeptical at best and see little reason to not continue to see them as Elements 2.0. This is a mediocre roster that just so happens to be playing under a very large football club’s organization. It doesn’t make them better, or more exciting than they were before. Fox is a clear upgrade over former mid laner Eika, but that’s about as far as the upgrades go. While others are looking at Schalke in tournaments, I’ll be more interested in H2k players in cash and ignoring Schalke in all formats, for the most part.

H2K

Elite Plays

Odoamne (DK $7,000, AD $7,700) – With Freeze struggling with the ‘C’ in ADC, Odoamne stepped up. Although it’s tough to say whether that’s a trend or not, as H2k’s roster is loaded with players who can be the guy in any one game, he’s probably the best top lane option on the slate.

Secondary Plays

Jankos (DK $6,700, AD $7,800) – This is a borderline elite play on DraftKings, where Jankos is more affordable. Still, the possibility of a split series keeps him closer to the secondary category. Very strong option in all formats on lineups where you didn’t already pay for Trick as your jungler.

FC Schalke

Elite Plays

None.

Secondary Plays

MrRalleZ (DK $6,400, AD $7,400) – A RotoGrinder’s favorite as a punt, RalleZ once again finds himself as a reasonable option at a low price. He is still this teams best player, even after the addition of Fox. H2k was inconsistent at best on Thursday, and further slips on Friday will be taken advantage of by MrRalleZ.
