MLB Daily Grind Down April 27th

The RotoGrinders MLB Grind Down article will give you an in-depth analysis into the MLB schedule. This article will break down the numbers for every single game and give you analysis on which trends you can exploit.
While matchups are a major factor in daily fantasy baseball, there are plenty of other factors to consider such as injuries, weather, and salaries. The analysis should point you in the right direction, but it is still up to you to decipher the information and make your own selections. No sport has more variance than baseball. The best choice is not always the right choice but following the trends will win you money over time.
Yesterday Anthony Rizzo went off so I made him todays featured player. He batted just .208 versus left-handed pitching last year and .318 versus right-handers. Sometimes, daily fantasy is just like that. If you were like me and you took a beating because the trends pointed you in the wrong direction, do not worry because we will get them back today. Here is today’s Grind Down to help you get prepared.

Las Vegas
- OU 8
- Favored NYM -145
Pitchers
- Home Shaun Marcum makes his return from the DL today. He is the strong favorite and takes the hill in a game with a low OU but I never trust a guy in his first start back. He catches a PHI team whose best hitters are producing. PHI is batting .271 over the last 7 days as a team. Avoid
- Away Somebody should tell Jonathan Pettibone that PHI already has a Jonathan with a weird last name starting with a P. He looked okay in his first start giving up 2 ER in 5.1 with 5 Ks. The 2 HR in that game are alarming as is the fact that he only threw 83 pitches. Avoid
Batters
- Home I think the young man’s encore will be a whole lot more difficult than his debut. I like all of the left-handed bats and David Wright if you can afford him.
- Away Ryan Howard is 4-8 vs. Marcum with 3 HRs. Chase Utley is 3-7 with 1 HR.
Cincinnati at Washington

| Note: Batter Splits Above Open in Pop Up Window | |||||||
Las Vegas
- OU 8
- Favored WAS -110
Pitchers
- Home Dan Haren has given up at least 3 ER in each of his 4 starts and has a WHIP a shade below 2 on the season. He is struggling and returns home where he was only a 4.68 pitcher a year ago. He catches a Reds team batting only .200 on the road and .198 over the last 7 days so it might be a war of attrition in this one. The BvP data favors CIN.
- Away Mike Leake has been solid at home so far this year. His home ERA a year ago was in the mid 5s so I am not sure that is a trend that will continue. He catches a WAS team slumping batting only .194 the last 7 days. They have hit him well in the past, though.
Batters
- Home Jayson Werth, Wilson Ramos and Ian Desmond have nice BvP versus Leake. Desmond is the only one out of those 3 currently producing.
- Away Shin-Shoo Choo and Joey Votto have each produced over 20 fp the last week both catch a righty today in which they sport a plus .300 BAA. Zack Cozart has 2 HR in 2 AB vs. Haren and Todd Frazier has 1 HR in 2 AB.
Atlanta at Detroit
| Atlanta | Detroit | ||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Comerica Park | 1:05 PM | ||||||

| PvB | (4-9 H/AB) 0.444 BA-A, 0.11 K%, 1 OPS-A | PvB | (4-17 H/AB) 0.235 BA-A, 0.12 K%, 0.529 OPS-A | ||||
| ROAD | (1-1), 2.08 ERA, 0 HRA, 4.8 K/9, 1 WHIP | HOME | (0-0), 7.2 ERA, 0 HRA, 1.8 K/9, 1.6 WHIP | ||||

ATL BvP | ATL vs R | DET BvP | DET vs R | ||||
| Note: Batter Splits Above Open in Pop Up Window | |||||||
Las Vegas
- OU 8
- Favored ATL -122
Pitchers
- Home Rick Porcello has a 11.08 ERA to start the season. He struggled at home a year ago. It is jus a guess but I think it is ATL turn to put up big numbers. Even if you like him to not give up many runs, he only has 3 Ks in 4 starts. Avoid
- Away Kris Medlen has been dealing. He draws a really tough matchup today in a DET team batting .328 at home. He is slated to get the win today but I am not sure that I am willing to jump on his rising price.
Batters
- Home DET is filled with talented players that are capable of big numbers so they are always in play but I think there are better matchups to be had today.
- Away Justin Upton is the only player producing for a slumping ATL but I think the bats come alive today. I like the left-handed bats tonight of Heyward and Freeman.
Toronto at NY Yankees
| Toronto | NY Yankees | ||||||

| J.A. Happ – (2-1), 3.68 ERA, 7.77 K/9, 1.14 WHIP | CC Sabathia – (3-2), 3.34 ERA, 8.23 K/9, 1.23 WHIP | ||||||
| PvB | (12-57 H/AB) 0.211 BA-A, 0.21 K%, 0.719 OPS-A | PvB | (0-0 H/AB) 0 BA-A, 0 K%, 0 OPS-A | ||||
| ROAD | (1-0), 3.27 ERA, 0 HRA, 8.2 K/9, 1.273 WHIP | HOME | (2-1), 3.43 ERA, 1 HRA, 8.6 K/9, 1.286 WHIP | ||||

TOR BvP | TOR vs L | NYY BvP | NYY vs L | ||||
| Note: Batter Splits Above Open in Pop Up Window | |||||||
Las Vegas
- OU 8
- Favored NYY -170
Pitchers
- Home CC Sabathia at home is an automatic target no matter who is going against. It helps things today that he is going against a free swinging TOR team with 42 Ks over the last 7 days. Target
- Away J.A. Happ could have a good game today. He has pitched very well to start the season and he goes against a NYY team struggling to hit left-handed pitching. The BvPs favor him. He might make a sneaky play if you chose to fade CC.
Batters
- Home The way Cano is hitting, I would take him versus anyone. Vernon Wells has been on a nice little run also and he gets a lefty again today.
- Away TOR as a team is 43-192 vs. Sabathia with only 1 HR. Steer clear today.
Baltimore at Oakland

BAL BvP | BAL vs R | OAK BvP | OAK vs R | ||||
| Note: Batter Splits Above Open in Pop Up Window | |||||||
Las Vegas
- OU 8
- Favored OAK -130
Pitchers
- Home A.J. Griffin has pitched well in OAK and can be a pitcher you can target from time to time. I do not trust him today versus a very heavy handed BAL team.
- Away Chris Tillman has been smacked around to open the season but gets the nice matchup vs. an OAK team batting only .214 at home. His Ks are a little low for me to gamble on, though, and he is a significant underdog today.
Batters
- Home John Donaldson has been a secret weapon for some daily fantasy players. He has produced at an insane clip over the last week. Josh Reddick is heating up and has the splits on his side. CoCo Crisp continues to perform.
- Away Nate McLouth has been on fire recently. Chris Davis, Manny Machado and Adam Jones have all produced over 20 fp in the last 7 days. I also like the lefty/righty split of Nick Markakis today.
