Pitcher Grind Down
- John Lackey – Similar to my comments about Gio, Lackey is a guy who isn’t worth paying up for given today’s available pitchers. The Coors thing certainly doesn’t help. Starter Rating: 5 out of 10
- Tyler Chatwood – Nope. Starter Rating: 1 out of 10
Batter Grind Down
- The highest O/U of the day means you can fire away on hitters here.
- Chatwood is allowing lefties to hit .287 on the year. For value, consider Jackie Bradley for Boston.
- Lackey has struggled with the long ball against right handers, putting Tulo in play.
- David Ortiz in Coors against Chatwood is JUICY
- The Rockies are the hottest offensive team in baseball, hitting .333 over the last week

Pitcher Grind Down
- Dan Straily – Check and make sure it’s not AJ Griffin going today but I’m still seeing Straily listed most places. If it is Daniel, he has a 1.96 ERA in his last 3 appearances and faces a team that has been average offensively over the past week. Starter Rating: 5 out of 10
- Jason Vargas – He’s extremely boom or bust but his 6.97 ERA against the A’s tells me that I’ll be avoiding him. Starter Rating: 3 out of 10
Batter Grind Down
- Trumbo is 5-11 with a HR off Straily. Trout is 6-15
- If Yoenis is in the LU, he’s 6-22 with 3 dongs against Vargas. Crisp is 14-39 with 2 HR as well
- Vargas has a .766 OPS against righties and .819 OPS against lefties. All batters are in play.
- The A’s are hitting .293 (going into Monday where they have 8 runs as I write this) over the last week

Pitcher Grind Down
- Bruce Chen – The upside is that the Mariners are one of the worst teams in baseball against left handed pitching. The downside is that he’s a reverse splits pitcher who struggles more against lefties than righties. More upside is he’s favored in a game with an O/U of 7. Starter Rating: 5 out of 10
- James Paxton – In 3 starts, he has 2 where you could say he hit ‘value’ and one dud against the tough Tigers offense. The Royals are scrappy but not a juggernaut offensively and with the low O/U, I think he might be a nice cheapie tonight. Starter Rating: 6 out of 10

Pitcher Grind Down
- Wade Miley – In 4 starts against the Padres his ERA is 7.11. The Padres feast on left handed pitching and Miley has fallen victim to it 4 times already. Don’t let yourself be trapped into falling for it a fifth time. Starter Rating: 4 out of 10
- Tyson Ross – Ross has 3 gems in his last 4 starts, with the one poor appearance being an absolute implosion. In 15 IP against ARI this year he has a 2.00 ERA and 14 K’s in 15 IP. He’s favored and at a pitcher friendly PetCo. Starter Rating: 6 out of 10
Batter Grind Down
- Gyorko is 3 for 8 with 2 doubles and Denorfia is 7 for 23 with a pair of doubles as well off Miley.
- Ross has held right handers to just a .205 BA-A on the season. Avoid Goldie, Hill and Prado tonight.
- Righties are hitting .262 off Miley with a .751 OPS against. Denorfia, Blanks, Gyorko and Hundley all hit lefties extremely well.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Hyun-Jin Ryu – The O/U here is a soft 6.5 with the moneyline being essentially a toss-up against Cain. But in 4 starts vs. SF he has just 12 K’s in 25 IP and a 3.2 K/9 rate over the last 14 days. His arm may be getting tired and there’s not enough upside for me to fall in love with this today. Starter Rating: 6 out of 10
- Matt Cain – A week or so back he held the Dodgers to just 1 ER with 6 K’s in 7 IP. He followed that with a strong performance against NYM where he lost out on a win thanks to a bullpen collapse of epic proportions. Again, I see the win being a challenge here but other than that he’s a strong play. Starter Rating: 7 out of 10
Batter Grind Down
- Adrian Gonzalez is 20-67 with 4 HR off Cain. Hanley is 11 for 40 with a HR and Ethier is 30 for 68 with a HR.
- Pence is 6-11 with 2 XBH off Ryu. Torres is 5-11 with a double.
- Overall I’m avoiding the hitters in a game with that O/U of 6.5
