Covering The Bases: Sunday, April 28th
Long-time grinder, STLCardinals84, is here to cover the bases for the upcoming MLB DFS slate. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cards has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his favorite MLB DFS picks.
Happy Sunday, Grinders! We have another fun Sunday slate on tap, with nine games on both the DraftKings and FanDuel main slates today.
This is one of the tougher Sunday slates we have seen so far in 2024. There is not a lot to get excited about for pitching, and a whole lot of the offenses are jumbled together in a tight window of projected runs. We’ll see if anything stands out as we go through the data. Let’s get to work!
Sunday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings
Just like last Sunday, part of what makes this slate so difficult is that we don’t have much for dominant pitching upside. A lot of the best pitchers are good real life pitchers but not high strikeout arms. That’s going to make ceiling results hard to get, with the exception of one ace.
TOP TIER PITCHING
Tarik Skubal vs. Royals
Marcus Stroman vs. Brewers
This is pretty much all we have to spend up for on the mound today. As usual, we will start with a look at the numbers for Tarik Skubal and Marcus Stroman this season. Skubal has a 1.82 ERA and a 2.54 xFIP to go along with sparkling advanced metrics that include a 31.3% strikeout rate and 4.5% walk rate. Meanwhile, Stroman owns a 2.93 ERA and 3.29 xFIP to go along with a 24.3% strikeout rate and 8.7% walk rate.
The decision is obvious. We have very little upside with our pitching options, and Skubal is the one pitcher that would potentially be able to break this slate. He is the current AL Cy Young favorite, and those metrics are sparkling. He has been a budding ace for a year plus now, and he has finally reached that status. The Royals have had a great start to the year but have slowed a bit offensively in recent days, and Skubal is the clear SP1 today.
SECONDARY TIER PITCHING
