Covering the Bases: Sunday, July 2

STLCardinals84, one of the best tournament players in the game, is here to cover the bases for the upcoming MLB DFS slate. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cards has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks.
Happy Sunday, Grinders! We have a fun slate on tap to keep the holiday vibes rolling. DraftKings is offering us a nine game main slate today, while FanDuel is adding the DET/COL game at Coors Field to give us a ten game main slate over there.
We will once again have to keep an eye on the weather today, so keep Kevin Roth’s weather page handy.
Right now, I am going to write this as if the all the games play without issue, but SD/CIN and CLE/CHC both have “yellow/orange” designations in the early going.
Let’s see what this fun Sunday slate has to offer for MLB DFS picks!
Sunday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings
Top Tier Pitching

Spencer Strider vs. Marlins
Kevin Gausman vs. Red Sox
Gerrit Cole vs. Cardinals
We can easily split the pitching options into a trio of three at the top today, as these pitchers definitely rise ahead of the others in terms of skills and fantasy upside. Here’s a look at their 2023 data to date:
Strider – 3.73 ERA, 2.92 xFIP, 39% K, 9% BB
Gausman – 3.01 ERA, 2.83 xFIP, 33% K, 6% BB
Cole – 2.78 ERA, 3.80 xFIP, 27% K, 7% BB
The one thing that I will take a stand on here is that Cole is a distant third in the mix of this top trio. He simply doesn’t compete with the others in terms of strikeout upside, and he definitely has the lowest likelihood to have a “slate breaking” type of performance. You can certainly keep him in your GPP pool if you are building a lot of lineups today, but he’s nowhere near a priority.
Now, the question becomes who to prioritize out of Strider and Gausman.
