Happy Sunday, Grinders! Also, Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there. I hope you have a great day! This Sunday brings us a healthy 11-game main slate on both FanDuel and DraftKings, and there is plenty to love on both the pitching and hitting sides of this slate. It’s going to be a fun afternoon of baseball along with the final round of the U.S. Open golf tournament.

This may be a hectic day for a lot of you, so be sure to check our MLB starting lineups page as the lineups start to trickle in. There are often a few surprises on Sundays with players getting days off, and we’ll keep you covered.

Let’s dig in and see what this holiday Sunday has to offer!

Sunday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings

Wheeler of the Phillies

TOP TIER TRIO OF PITCHERS

Zack Wheeler vs. Blue Jays
MacKenzie Gore vs. Marlins
Max Fried vs. Red Sox

We have a clear cut trio of aces at the top of the board, and all of them have their merits. Let’s start with a peek at the 2025 data:

Wheeler – 2.85 ERA, 2.68 xFIP, 32.0% K, 6.0% BB
Gore – 2.88 ERA, 2.58 xFIP, 34.8% K, 6.7% BB
Fried – 1.84 ERA, 3.20 xFIP, 23.4% K, 5.2% BB

The analysis of these pitchers is actually fairly straightforward from my view. Zack Wheeler is perhaps the most consistent pitcher in the major leagues. He always goes deep into games. His strikeouts are elite. He has allowed more than 2 runs in just 1 of his last 8 starts. The only downside is a matchup against a Toronto offense that has been hitting the cover off the ball in June, but the Phillies have slowed them down this weekend. Wheeler is absolutely fine and is your cash game SP1 today.

In GPP builds, I will side with the pivot to MacKenzie Gore thanks to his upside and matchup against the Marlins. He likely won’t be quite as popular as Wheeler, yet Gore has the better matchup and a higher strikeout rate this year. The Marlins have been a bit better against lefties, but Gore has a massive 35% strikeout rate, and the Marlins are a low-walk offense that still ranks just 24th in team ISO against LHP. I really like the ceiling potential for Gore, and the discount from Wheeler also helps.

Max Fried is merely a leftover option in this tier. He’s a great real life pitcher, but his advanced metrics do suggest negative regression in the longer term. His 23% strikeout rate is also miles below both Gore and Wheeler. Fried is certainly fine and can be sprinkled into multi-entry GPP builds, but he’s clearly a step below the others.

In short, Wheeler is my cash game SP1. Gore is my GPP SP1. Fried is a multi-entry dart throw option at best.
