What is your preferred tournament format (e.g. large-field, single-entry) to play on this slate? How do you plan to beat that field of opponents? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?
CheeseIsGood: We will never know less than we know right now, so that means I’ll be spreading out all over the place early and often. There is no way to know who comes out of the gate slow, and even with ace pitchers, any of them could be off their game in the first start. While I have some favorites, I am going out of my way not to get too locked in on anyone. The only play anywhere that I’ll be even with the field on chalk is with Yusei Kikuchi on DK.
headChopper: I’ll be playing 50 lineups in large-field GPPs. Typically, the first few days of the new baseball season feature the toughest pitchers—obviously, there are exceptions—but that, combined with the relatively low implied team totals on this slate, has me lowering my stacking size. Every lineup will still include some sort of stack, but I may max out at 3 batters.
Dean78904: I mostly focus on single-entry and smaller-field contests. Opening Day always comes with the excitement of baseball being back, but along with that, a lot of really tough pitchers to attack and unappealing game environments with cold temperatures which leads to subdued team totals. With that in mind, I expect my stacks to look less like 5-3 / 4-4 iterations and more like 3-3-2 / 3-3-1-1 combinations, where I’m more open to homer-hunting.
ebeimfohr: Especially in baseball, I am a huge proponent of smaller-field contests and single-entry tournaments. There is so much variance in baseball, especially on the hitting side, but ownership really condenses around a core of players even more heavily in these smaller-field tournaments. Being willing to go off the board, or even make some minor pivots or leverage plays, in smaller fields can give you a path to being nearly the only person with that path to win.
