Million Dollar Musings: MLB DFS Picks Today for Monday 4/28
Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Dave Potts (aka CheeseIsGood) has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks. Cheese, one of the preeminent baseball minds in all of fantasy sports and a winner of a $1,000,000 1st-place prize on both DraftKings and FanDuel, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate.
Happy Monday! We are now a month into this MLB season, and with most pitchers having at least 5 starts under their belt, the stats I list in the pitching section are going to be the 2025 numbers only. Please keep in mind that this leaves us with some very small sample sizes, and I’ll still be leaning heavily on older numbers as well, but for the sake of quickly glancing at skill sets, I want to see what they are doing so far this season.
We open this week with a 6-game slate that is heavily slanted towards offense, headlined by the Braves traveling to Coors Field and at least another half-dozen strong teams in good matchups. This slate starts a few minutes earlier than normal at 6:35 PM ET, so we will start seeing MLB starting lineups roll in nice and early today.

Monday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings
This is a very weak pitching slate, and outside of Jack Flaherty, we are going to be making some very uncomfortable choices. I’ll use $8,000 on DK as the dividing line for tiers.
A FLAHERTY AND SOME OTHER HUMANS THAT ARE ODDLY PRICED AT $8,000+
- Jack Flaherty at Astros – 30.6% K, 8.1% BB, 2.63 ERA, 2.96 SIERA
- Dustin May vs. Marlins – 20.7% K, 9.8% BB, 3.68 ERA, 4.00 SIERA
- Edward Cabrera at Dodgers – 26.9% K, 11.9% BB, 6.14 ERA, 3.89 SIERA
- Ronel Blanco at Tigers – 20% K, 12% BB, 5.01 ERA, 4.75 SIERA
- JP Sears at Rangers – 19.8% K, 5.2% BB, 3.21 ERA, 3.99 SIERA
Jack Flaherty is the only true ace on this slate, and while his splits have flipped a bit in the early going, the long-term numbers say this is an ideal matchup for him against the right-handed Astros. In 2024, he had a 31.6% K rate to righties, and this year he’s at 26% K with the same strong control. His moderate walk issues have come against lefties, and I don’t care at all if he walks Yordan Alvarez; in fact, I’d just encourage it.
In a world where salary cap doesn’t matter, Dustin May looks like the clear SP2 here in a great home matchup against the Marlins. I’m just giving him a pass on his career-worst start last week. Everyone has to have their worst start sometime, and now he’s gotten that out of the way. Prior to that, he had allowed just two runs in 17 innings, and it’s tough to imagine a solid all-around pitcher with ground ball ability getting shelled by the Marlins. The issue here is really just that it’s tough to get him and Flaherty in the same lineup, and I prefer Flaherty.
Edward Cabrera always has strikeout upside, but the control and efficiency look as dicey as ever, and this is just a very unlikely spot for his upside to shine through. There is such a lack of strong pitching on this slate that I do think he still belongs in the MME pool, but I’m looking elsewhere for primary options.
