Happy Thursday! We’ve got games spread out all over the place today, landing on just two smaller slates. The main evening slate is just 4 games on DK starting at the usual 7:10 PM ET, while FD is starting an hour earlier to add one additional game (WSH/PHI) for a 6:05 PM ET start time. Before we get to that, I’ll take a quick peek at the early 5-game DK slate that starts at 12:35 PM ET, aka lunchtime!

Thursday Early Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on DraftKings

This is a pretty good pitching slate for only 5 games. You could sort of put Dylan Cease up in his own tier and then combine everything else, but I’m going to use $8,000 on DK as a cut-off, which gives us four top-tier pitchers and then a few reasonable cheaper options as well.

TOP TIER PITCHING

• Dylan Cease at Cubs – 36.2% K, 10.6% BB, 2.41 ERA, 2.97 SIERA
• Nolan McLean at Guardians – 28.4% K, 8.6% BB, 3.29 ERA, 3.44 SIERA
• Braxton Ashcraft at Brewers – 26.6% K, 5.9% BB, 3.96 ERA, 3.35 SIERA
• Foster Griffin vs. Mets – 22.1% K, 5.7% BB, 3.06 ERA, 3.80 SIERA

Sometimes Dylan Cease is amazing and puts up a DFS score that you simply can’t win without. Other times, he’s merely really great and puts up a DFS score that is good enough to win with. He has 7+ strikeouts in an incredible 14 straight starts, and he has gone over 100 pitches in 12 of his starts this season in a world where a lot of pitchers don’t reach 100 pitches ever in their lives. I would say just play him and move on with your day. I am not scared off by either the matchup or the hitter-friendly weather in Wrigley Field. To me, the only case not to play him is that he’s $10,500 and we do have several other good pitchers on this slate at $9,000 and below. So, this may not be an all-in kind of play with salary factored in, but he’s the SP1.
