Million Dollar Musings: MLB DFS Picks Today for Thursday 9/18
Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Dave Potts (aka CheeseIsGood) has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks. Cheese, one of the preeminent baseball minds in all of fantasy sports and a winner of a $1,000,000 1st-place prize on both DraftKings and FanDuel, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate.
Happy Thursday! We have an early start to this MLB Thursday with a 6-game slate at 1:10 PM ET. It’s a fun slate with Tarik Skubal all alone up top ahead of a big group of decent mid-tier pitchers and then the Marlins in Coors Field again topping the list on the offensive side of the ledger.
We’ve also got a small little 4-game slate later tonight at 7:15 PM ET, and if you’re playing that while you watch that other sport, we will have expert tags and analysis available in our MLB DFS optimizer, LineupHQ.

Thursday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings
I can only put one pitcher in the top tier today, as we have as big of a gap as you’ll ever find between him and everything else.
THE LONE ACE
- Tarik Skubal vs. Guardians – 32.1% K, 4% BB, 2.26 ERA, 2.69 SIERA
Off the top of my head, I don’t recall ever seeing a slate where there was a $3,000 salary gap between the top pitcher and the next closest. Based on the elite skill of Skubal and the mediocrity of everyone else, I can’t say it’s wrong. But it does get a little dicier when we consider that Skubal was way off in his last start before leaving early with tightness in his side. Everything appears to be normal, but I am willing to look for any reason to be cautious with a pitcher at this salary. Officially, I am not at all concerned that he had a bad game, and it’s not as if anyone else on this slate is close to him. Also, not that it matters if he’s at full strength, but this is a good matchup against a Cleveland team whose strikeouts go way up against LHP.
On DK, I am only going to force him in if it turns out that we can still get the bats we need with him. So I’m withholding judgment until I look at the rest of the slate. Over on FD, the salary gap is still big, but at $10,700, it is a little easier to get to him. Let’s get through the rest of this slate and then see where we’re at with that pesky old salary cap.
