Million Dollar Musings: MLB DFS picks

Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Dave Potts (aka CheeseIsGood) has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks. Cheese, one of the preeminent baseball minds in all of fantasy sports and a winner of a $1,000,000 1st-place prize on both DraftKings and FanDuel, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate.

Happy Thursday! We have a busier Thursday than usual with games spread throughout the day. This leaves us with a 5-game early slate starting at 12:40 PM ET and then a 6-game main slate at the usual 7:05 PM ET. You can also check out our MLB DFS lineup optimizer, LineupHQ, for expert tags and analysis on the early slate.

Both slates have one game that we’ll need to keep an eye on with pitchers in the MLB weather. Those are PIT/CIN on the early slate and CWS/NYY on the night slate. They are both yellow to start, so for now, I’m assuming we can play everything there, but be sure to check back before lock.

Thursday Early Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings

Yamamoto of the Dodgers

You could maybe put Yoshinobu Yamamoto up in his own tier, both for skill set and salary, but I’ll add Framber Valdez up top just for the name value and so Yamamoto doesn’t feel too much pressure being by himself.

TOP TIER PITCHING

The two spend-up pitchers on this slate are both on teams that still have something to play for. This doesn’t really change much for me today, but it at least gives Framber Valdez more of a leash if by chance we get the good version of Valdez. The problem here is that he has not looked good at all since July. We’re looking at a stunningly bad 15.7% K rate with a 9.6% walk rate in 9 starts since the beginning of August. Even his ground balls are down to 54%, and there’s really nothing but just blind hope that today is the day he suddenly recovers. I know he has the talent, but I really can’t get excited about a guy who has been pitching this poorly for this long. Add in the low strikeout matchup in the bad ballpark, and even at the discounted $8,700 on DK, I have very little interest here.
