Million Dollar Musings: MLB DFS Picks Today for Tuesday 9/23
Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Dave Potts (aka CheeseIsGood) has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks. Cheese, one of the preeminent baseball minds in all of fantasy sports and a winner of a $1,000,000 1st-place prize on both DraftKings and FanDuel, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate.
Happy Tuesday! We have a good-looking 11-game slate with plenty of quality options on both the pitching and hitting sides. The first thing I want to note here is that probably the highest-owned player on the slate is going to be Bryce Miller, pitching at home against the Rockies. However, as of 10:30 AM ET when I’m finishing this article, we still don’t have confirmation that he’s starting. I am assuming that he is and have written the analysis with that assumption. Just be sure to keep an eye on this, as it would change things significantly if Seattle goes with a different starter. I’ll update as needed, and we should at least know by the time we get to Crunch Time tonight at 6:10 PM ET.
We’ve got a small handful of yellow, but it looks like Kevin Roth is going to give us another clean night with the MLB weather.

Tuesday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings
Before I dive into this pitching slate in the usual way, I want to start by making sure I don’t bury the lead – Bryce Miller is at home against the Rockies for $7,000 on DK and $7,500 on FD. I am still going to sort things into pricing tiers as usual; just know that we can be a lot pickier with the spend-ups, knowing that there is a great option at significant savings.
TOP TIER PITCHING
- Logan Webb vs. Cardinals – 26% K, 5.4% BB, 3.27 ERA, 3.15 SIERA
- Kevin Gausman vs. Red Sox – 24.3% K, 6.5% BB, 3.38 ERA, 3.82 SIERA
- Hurston Waldrep vs. Nationals – 24.5% K, 8.8% BB, 3.04 ERA, 3.86 SIERA
- Cole Ragans at Angels – 2nd start off IL
At the top of the salary board, I see no real reason to overthink it with Logan Webb over Kevin Gausman and Hurston Waldrep. Gausman has been tremendous recently, and Waldrep has shown some upside, but Webb has the better long-term consistency and the better skill set, and when adding in the ballpark, I’d argue he has the better matchup. While Webb hasn’t had a dominant DFS start in a while, outside of one dud against the Dodgers, he’s been very good in a tough run of matchups. Getting the low-power Cardinals at home is about as good as it gets when adding in his ability to limit power. He’s not a must-play because we have other good options at lower salaries, but he’s the only pitcher I’m spending more than $9,000 for on either site.
If you want to keep riding the Kevin Gausman bandwagon, I certainly have no issue with that. He’s been great down the stretch but still doesn’t often spike enough strikeouts to be any kind of DFS slate breaker. The matchup is OK for strikeouts but adds significantly more power risk than what Webb sees tonight. Gausman is just an MME leftover for me.
