Happy Wednesday! We have very different slates between the sites tonight, with a 7-game DK slate at the usual 7:05 PM ET start time, while FD adds an additional 4 games and begins at 6:35 PM ET. The biggest difference is on the offensive side, where the clear top two offenses on this slate are on the FD slate but left off on DK. This leaves things very muddled and unclear on DK tonight, while on both sites, the pitching is affordable enough that salary barely matters.

Wednesday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on DraftKings and FanDuel

We have a pretty big group of good pitchers, and because of some shaky recent performances from many of them, the salaries are all bunched together on the lower side. There is only one pitcher priced above $10,000 on FD, and no one at $10,000 on DK, making it fairly easy to play whoever you want.

• Paul Skenes at Brewers – 30.5% K, 6.3% BB, 3.90 ERA, 3.04 SIERA
• Sonny Gray vs. White Sox – 21.3% K, 6.5% BB, 2.93 ERA, 3.90 SIERA
• Bryan Woo vs. Tigers – 24.5% K, 5.2% BB, 4.56 ERA, 3.58 SIERA
• Casey Mize at Diamondbacks – 24.9% K, 5.6% BB, 2.70 ERA, 3.68 SIERA
• Sean Burke at Red Sox – 27.7% K, 7.3% BB, 3.04 ERA, 3.41 SIERA
• Kyle Harrison vs. Pirates – 29.6% K, 5.9% BB, 3.01 ERA, 3.09 SIERA
• Eury Perez at Braves – 26.5% K, 9.5% BB, 3.44 ERA, 3.85 SIERA
• Will Warren vs. Cardinals – 23% K, 7.6% BB, 4.14 ERA, 3.94 SIERA
• Reid Detmers at Orioles (FD) – 28.3% K, 7.4% BB, 4.03 ERA, 3.44 SIERA
• Trevor Rogers vs. Angels (FD) – 19.2% K, 6.9% BB, 4.27 ERA, 4.40 SIERA

This slate gets tricky right away with the current form of Paul Skenes. If Skenes is for sure 100%, then it’s really simple, and he’s the SP1 with no need to overthink it. But it’s far from a safe thing to say that he’s 100% right now with a shocking 6.38 ERA over his last 7 starts. However, while the surface numbers look scary, he still has an elite 30.2% K rate over that time frame, and it’s hard to imagine a .419 BABIP being real. There has been some talk about his velocity being down, but it’s so slight that I’m not sure it’s an issue in any way. He’s been hanging around 97 mph all season and recently had one start at 96.1 and one start at 96.3 but has otherwise been the same as ever. His Stuff+ numbers look fine as well. Maybe he’s a skosh behind where he was in April and May, but I don’t see anything truly worrisome here. As long as the strikeouts are still there, which they are, I’m still in on Skenes and will simply take this opportunity to get him at lower ownership than usual because of his recent struggles. I want to be clear that I’m not 100% sure that there’s nothing wrong here, but personally, I am playing it as if this is the same Skenes as ever, making him my SP1. I will also note that while I say ‘lower ownership than usual,’ he is still almost certain to be the highest-owned pitcher on this slate. I just mean that he will be a little less popular than he would be if he still had a 2.00 ERA.

The slate remains tricky after Skenes, as the guy who would be the clear SP2 if everyone was 100% also has question marks. That is…
