Happy Wednesday! We’ve got a busy day with games spread out all over the place. All the slates are different between the sites, so here’s how I’m going to handle it:

I’ll start by looking at the 7-game early slate on DK. This slate starts at 1:05 PM ET, also known as lunchtime here! FD has split the early games up into smaller slates, but you can use the DK breakdown to look into those if you are so inclined.

Then, we’ll talk about this evening’s main slate, but be aware that the FD slate is adding an extra game (DET/BAL) and starting earlier at 6:35 PM ET. DK’s evening slate starts at the usual 7:10 PM ET.

We should be clear on the MLB weather front, so you can spend your day toggling between this article and all of these different slates in our MLB DFS optimizer, LineupHQ.

Wednesday Early Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings

Schwellenbach of the Braves

I am going to mention 6 pitchers here, but I am ending up with a narrowed-down pool of just 4 pitchers for my primary lineups.

TOP TIER, MID-TIER, AND ALL-TIER PITCHING

Spencer Schwellenbach had a disappointing start last week after 2 big 11-strikeout performances. That, along with the overall average 22.9% K rate, leaves all kinds of questions as to where his true strikeout level is at this point. But there is no doubt about his control, efficiency, innings, and pitch-count ceiling. He still looks like a complete ace against righties, and he most likely sees 5 righties today and only 2 lefties with even moderate power risk. The strikeout matchup isn’t great, but overall, his matchup is far better than the other two spend-up options on this early slate, making him the clear SP1.

Bryan Woo is very similar to Schwellenbach, but he hasn’t shown the same ceiling, and he has a tougher matchup. Like Schwellenbach, he’s very splitsy, but he should face more lefties with more power. I have virtually no interest here at this salary.

Jesus Luzardo has been absolutely shellacked in 2 straight starts, allowing an unbelievable 20 runs in 5+ innings. I have no idea what to make of this, as nothing looks seriously wrong under the surface. He’s just simply not hitting his spots all of a sudden and is getting BABIP’d and HR/FB’d into oblivion. I think he’ll be fine, but this is a matchup where I’d be cautious even if he were pitching well. He’s in the MME pool ahead of Woo, but I don’t plan to play much (if any) Luzardo either.
