Derek Farnsworth walks you through the top stacks for the upcoming MLB main slate. Should we eat the chalk? Which team is a good pivot? Where can we find leverage? Find out below!

MLB DFS is complex. Most articles on MLB DFS picks are about the individual players most likely to succeed on any given day, but the MLB DFS picks most likely to succeed aren’t always the MLB DFS picks we should be most likely to play.

In this space, we will look at the MLB DFS process over the MLB DFS picks. And we’re looking at teams over individual players, using the features of the RotoGrinders Top Stacks tool. We’ll still look at the player projections available in LineupHQ. Still, we’ll be more focused on collective ownership, optimal scores, and matchups of full stacks within the context of game selection and leverage.

It always feels like the baseball season is coming to an end once we reach August, but teams still have around 45 games on the schedule. This is the time of year when the playoff contenders are making a final push for seeding and when bad teams start to call up prospects from the minors. The stars and scrubs lineup approach is typically more viable thanks to all of the cheap punts available and stacking can be a little more volatile due the mixed motivations of teams.

I plan to follow the advice Michael Scott gave to Dwight by stacking good offenses and exploiting favorable matchups.

The Chalk Stack – Dodgers vs. Austin Gomber

The Dodgers happen to be very good at hitting the baseball and they tend to be even better at home. Tonight they host Austin Gomber and the Rockies and by all accounts, this is one of the best matchups on the board. On the season, Gomber owns a 5.53 xERA with a strikeout rate of only 15%. He has a slate-high 39% hard contact rate and has struggled with batters from both sides of the plate. The Dodgers certainly aren’t flying under the radar, as they currently check in with ownership projections of 9.8% on DraftKings and 8.6% on FanDuel. This is closely aligned with their Opto%, which makes them a viable stack, even in large-field tournaments.
