MLB DFS Top Stacks: Monday, September 4

Keith Eyster walks you through the top stacks for the upcoming MLB main slate. Should we eat the chalk? Which team is a good pivot? Where can we find leverage? Find out below!

MLB DFS is complex. Most articles on MLB DFS picks are about the individual players most likely to succeed on any given day, but the MLB DFS picks most likely to succeed aren’t always the MLB DFS picks we should be most likely to play.

In this space, we will look at the MLB DFS process over the MLB DFS picks. And we’re looking at teams over individual players, using the features of the RotoGrinders Top Stacks tool. We’ll still look at the player projections available in LineupHQ. Still, we’ll be more focused on collective ownership, optimal scores, and matchups of full stacks within the context of game selection and leverage.

Happy Labor Day! We have an early 7-game main slate to help keep you occupied on this holiday. Cole Ragans is still not getting the respect he deserves, especially on one particular site (looking at you DK!), and that should allow us plenty of salary to spend up on some bats. Let’s take a look at the top offense today and a couple of other options where we want to differentiate our lineups.

Chalk Stack – Diamondbacks vs. Peter Lambert

The Diamondbacks own the highest implied run total on the slate at just over 5.5 runs. No other team is currently sitting above 5 implied runs.

They have been a league-average offense this season, with a .321 wOBA and 100 wRC+, but they get a great matchup today as they welcome the Rockies to the desert.

Peter Lambert will make the start for the Rockies, and he has had his share of struggles this season. He owns a 4.95 ERA and a below-average 19.6% strikeout rate. He has allowed a 12.1% barrel rate, 1.66 HR/9, and a 45.3% hard hit rate. Limiting hard contact is not a skill he possesses at this point in his career.

Corbin Carroll is a budding superstar and the top hitter in this lineup. He leads the D-backs with a .285 ISO versus RHP, and he has added 41 stolen bases on an 89.1% success rate.

Lourdes Gurriel, Christian Walker, and Ketel Marte join Carroll with ISOs above .200 against RHP this season.

Tommy Pham and Alek Thomas offer value options in the outfield, and both have respectable numbers versus RHP this season. Both are also projected to hit in the middle of the order.

Overall, the Diamondbacks stack is very affordable. Only Carroll is above $5k on DK and $4k on FD. And only Walker and Marte are above $4k on DK and $3k on FD. Everyone else can be considered a value option.

I think Cole Ragans with a full D-backs stack is going to be extremely popular, especially on DK where it is extremely easy to fit that build. And since I have no interest in fading Ragans, I will probably be looking for pivot stacks in my single-entry and smaller-field contests.
