MLB DFS Picks: Top Stacks for Monday, June 16th

Opto% Stack

Houston Astros at JP Sears

The Houston Astros stand out as the premier MLB DFS stack against JP Sears, leading the slate in optimal stack rate, stack rating, and Value%. Their implied run total of 5.55 runs underscores the offensive upside. Sears is a prototypical fly-ball lefty, a profile that historically aligns with Houston’s strengths. His struggles against righties are notable, with a modest 17.7% strikeout rate and a .225 ISO allowed, making him highly vulnerable to power bats.

Sears’ worst outing this season came in Houston, where he surrendered 3 home runs and 9 runs, highlighting his risk in this matchup. While the Astros lineup lacks elite hard-hit metrics and barrel rates, their ability to put balls in play—especially in the air—creates a high ceiling for home runs. Sears rarely issues walks, so the Astros’ value is tied to their power potential rather than sustained rallies.

Their affordability across DFS sites makes them a likely chalk stack, and the matchup provides a clear path to a multi-homer game, cementing Houston as the top DFS stack for both upside and value today.

Value% Stack

Washington Nationals vs. Carson Palmquist

The Washington Nationals make for an intriguing MLB DFS stack against Carson Palmquist, ranking 6th in optimal stack rate and 4th in Value% in our projections, with a strong implied run total of 5.22 runs. Palmquist’s primary weaknesses are his propensity to allow walks and fly balls, both of which can fuel big DFS scores.

While the Nationals offense is notably stronger versus RHP, their matchup against a lefty like Palmquist still offers upside, especially if he exits early and Washington faces the bullpen for most of the game.

Pinch-hit risk is a concern, but righties such as Alex Call—when in the lineup—stand out as core options. CJ Abrams and James Wood are also appealing, particularly if they benefit from extended plate appearances against relievers. Despite some risk, the combination of Palmquist’s control issues and the Nationals’ favorable value metrics positions them as a high-upside stack, with the potential to lead the slate in runs scored.
