MLB DFS Picks: Top Stacks for Thursday, August 21st
Opto% Stack
Oakland Athletics at Minnesota Twins (Jose Urena)
The Oakland Athletics present a compelling MLB DFS stack option against Jose Urena, featuring the best optimal stack rate, best stack rating, and 4th-best Value% in projections, alongside an implied run total of 4.75 runs. Urena’s lack of strikeout capability, paired with a propensity to allow hard hits from both sides of the plate, makes the A’s an attractive play.
Taking advantage of Urena’s struggles, especially against lefties with his concerning 11% strikeout rate and .242 ISO allowed, becomes crucial. Nick Kurtz stands out as a top bat, supported by the mid-tier strengths of Tyler Soderstrom and Lawrence Butler. These players align with Urena’s weaknesses, offering solid upside.
Brent Rooker presents a valuable alternative, providing salary flexibility and potential upside over higher-cost options like Will Smith and Teoscar Hernandez.

Opto% Stack
Los Angeles Dodgers at Colorado Rockies (Chase Dollander)
The Los Angeles Dodgers emerge as an excellent MLB DFS stack against Chase Dollander, holding the 2nd-best optimal stack rate in projections and an impressive implied run total of 7.4 runs. Dollander’s struggles in his rookie campaign, reflected by a 6.43 ERA, make the Dodgers a prime target.
While Dollander performs better against righties, with a 21.9% strikeout rate and 51% ground-ball rate, his vulnerability is evident against lefties, marked with a 14.3% strikeout rate and 11.7% walk rate. This disparity positions lefties, particularly Freddie Freeman, as key play, given Freeman’s ability to exploit Dollander’s weaknesses.
Michael Conforto adds value but is secondary to Freeman. While high salaries pose challenges, players like Will Smith and Teoscar Hernandez remain viable options as one-off plays.
Despite cost considerations, the Dodgers’ potent lineup against an inexperienced pitcher makes them likely candidates for top-scoring honors on the slate.
