MLB DFS Tournament Strategy: Wednesday, April 3rd

MLB DFS tournament play is unlike that of any other sport. Predicting outcomes with precision is difficult, and player variance is near its peak. There are special considerations when constructing lineups in order for you to find success in the long term. Each weekday, our DFS analysts will examine a specific tournament format and help you understand the application of strategy, via concepts such as pitcher pairings, roster construction, stacking, leverage, ownership, variance, and more.

Pitching Texture

Despite Wednesday’s main slate being a small 5-gamer, it’s a fairly strong pitching slate that includes the likes of Gerrit Cole, Jameson Taillon, Ross Stripling, and Miles Mikolas. While Cole is the clear cut #1 option in terms of talent and projection, his expensive price tag has him trailing most others in terms of points/$. Cole is currently projected to be the third highest owned pitcher on DraftKings (29%) and the second highest owned pitcher on FanDuel (17%). I’m planning on being overweight on Cole in GPPs as I think his upside is unrivaled – Derek Carty’s The BAT Percentile Projections have his 90th-percentile projection 4.2 points higher than Taillon on FanDuel and 2.8 higher on DraftKings.
