Anibal Sanchez (FD: $8200, DK: $8400)
Pitching Stats:
2015: IP: 60 — SIERA: 3.64 — K Rate: 22.9% — K/9: 8.80 — BB Rate: 6.6% — FB Rate: 41.7% — HR/FB: 15.1%
2014: IP: 126 — SIERA: 3.64 — K Rate: 19.8% — K/9: 7.29 — BB Rate: 5.8% — FB Rate: 34.9% — HR/FB: 3.1%
LA Angels of Anaheim vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.279 (Rank: 29) — Strikeout Rate: 0.203 (Rank: 18) — wRC+: 81 (Rank: 28)
Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.74 (Rank: 22)
Analysis: Sanchez has been knocked around in his last two starts, giving up a combined 14 earned runs in only 9.1 innings of work. He’ll look to bounce back tonight against an underachieving Angels’ offense that is ranked 29th in wOBA (.279) and 28th in wRC+ (81) against right-handed pitching this season. The Angels may be without Erick Aybar tonight, which only hurts their lineup even more. Sanchez will not be a popular pick tonight, but he’s in a good position to bounce back after two subpar outings in a row.
Pitcher Rating:66.3
Hector Santiago (FD: $7700, DK: $6900)
Pitching Stats:
2015: IP: 54 — SIERA: 4.24 — K Rate: 21.6% — K/9: 8.23 — BB Rate: 9.5% — FB Rate: 47.7% — HR/FB: 8.1%
2014: IP: 127 — SIERA: 4.38 — K Rate: 19.9% — K/9: 7.63 — BB Rate: 9.7% — FB Rate: 49.9% — HR/FB: 8.0%
Detroit Tigers vs. LH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.346 (Rank: 2) — Strikeout Rate: 0.232 (Rank: 24) — wRC+: 121 (Rank: 2)
Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.86 (Rank: 9)
Analysis: Santiago is an extreme fly-ball pitcher with an above-average strikeout rate. He stays out of trouble for the most part, as his HR/FB rate is typically well under the major league average of 10%. He draws one of the toughest pitching matchups on the schedule tonight though, as the Tigers are ranked 2nd in both wOBA (.346) and wRC+ (121) against left-handed pitching this season. Santiago’s teammate, C.J. Wilson, has success against the Tigers last night, but you can’t keep this offense quiet for very long.

Analysis: Davis should be in the leadoff spot again tonight with a left-handed pitcher on the mound. He has a .407 wOBA and a .273 ISO against southpaws this season. He also has great stolen base potential. He has already stolen 11 bases on the season, which is pretty impressive considering the fact that he hasn’t been an everyday player.

Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.89 (Rank: 6)
Analysis: Capuano is coming off of a solid 2014 campaign, where he posted a 3.86 SIERA and a K/9 of 7.8. He will be a viable fantasy option moving forward, but he’s still making his way back from injury. He’s only thrown a combined 147 pitches in his first two starts and he’ll likely be on somewhat of a pitch count again tonight. For that reason, he can safely be avoided against the A’s.
Pitcher Rating:55.2
Sonny Gray (FD: $10100, DK: $9400)
Pitching Stats:

wOBA: 0.323 (Rank: 8) — Strikeout Rate: 0.196 (Rank: 12) — wRC+: 104 (Rank: 8)
Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.94 (Rank: 4)
Analysis: Gray has really pitched well this season with a 3.41 SIERA and a K/9 of 8.3. He has cut down on his walks and he’s producing more ground-ball outs this year, which is good to see. His HR/FB rate of 3.2% is unsustainable, but that’s not a huge concern. The issue tonight is his matchup against the Yankees, who are ranked 12th or better in wOBA, strikeout rate, wRC+, and pitches per plate appearance against right-handed pitching this season. Don’t overthink this one, take Matt Harvey tonight as your ace.

Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.87 (Rank: 8)
Analysis: Bauer has a tough act to follow, after Corey Kluber had yet another dominant outing on Thursday night. Bauer is quitely having a very nice season of his own, posting a 3.88 SIERA with a K/9 of 8.7. He draws the matchup against the Mariners at the perfect time, as Seattle has been struggling to score runs in recent weeks. They are now ranked 23rd in wOBA (.296) and 25th in strikeout rate (22.2%) against right-handed pitching this season. He has a good chance to pick up a win tonight, but he’s a little overpriced on both FanDuel and DraftKings.

Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.94 (Rank: 3)
Analysis: Walker has been a boom or bust fantasy option this season. He has a decent strikeout rate, but he also has a decent blowup rate (meaning he gets knocked around quite a bit). He draws one of the worst pitching matchups in all of baseball. The Indians are ranked 5th or better in wOBA, strikeout rate, wRC+, and pitches per plate appearance against right-handed pitching this season. Walker should not be on your radar tonight.

Analysis: Brantley is always one of my favorite cash game targets because he does everything well and he rarely has a bad fantasy outing. He can hit for average, he can hit for power, he hits both left and right-handed pitching well, and he’s got some speed on the base pads. He draws a favorable matchup tonight against Taijuan Walker, who has given up a .358 wOBA to left-handed hitters since the start of 2014.

Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.82 (Rank: 11)
Analysis: Liriano can be dominant at times, but he can also be erratic at times. When he starts walking batters (10.4% walk rate this season), it drives up his pitch count and lets his opponents get runners in scoring position. The Padres don’t take a ton of walks though and Liriano’s 29% strikeout rate more than makes up for the high walk rate anyway. He gets to pitch in one of the best pitcher’s parks in baseball tonight in Petco Park. He is a strong play on multi-pitcher sites, but should be avoided on FanDuel, as he may have a tough time getting the win.

Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.80 (Rank: 14)
Analysis: Shields has been outstanding this season with a 2.64 SIERA and a K/9 of 11.8. He is pitching at home where he has been dominant this season, although he is catching the Pirates at the wrong time. Pittsburgh’s offense has really come alive in recent weeks. It wasn’t very long ago that they were ranked near the bottom of the majors in wOBA and wRC+ against right-handed pitching. Even though the matchup may not be ideal, Shields should still be considered one of the elite pitching options tonight.

Analysis: There usually aren’t many elite plays in Petco Park when there are two aces on the mound, but I’ll make an exception for Mr. Norris. He has been terrific against left-handed pitching this season, posting a .479 wOBA and a .188 ISO. Liriano has been efficient against right-handed hitters, but the price on Norris is cheap enough that he deserves the elite play status.

Analysis: Hudson has a good chance to be in line for the win tonight, but he’s still not a recommended fantasy option. His strikeouts continue to trend in the wrong direction as he gets older. He has a very low K/9 of 4.2 this season, which means he can’t have any mistakes on the mound if he’s going to pay off his salary. I’ll be avoiding Hudson tonight in lieu of pitchers that have more upside.

Analysis: The sample size is still small, but Foltynewicz has given up a .463 wOBA to left-handed hitters since the start of 2014. Belt provides good value at first base, as he has a .422 wOBA and a .252 ISO against right-handed pitching this season. Belt is also swinging a hot bat with three home runs in the last seven days.
