While matchups are a major factor in daily fantasy baseball, there are plenty of other factors to consider such as injuries, weather, and salaries.
The analysis should point you in the right direction, but it is still up to you to decipher the information and make your own selections. No sport has more variance than baseball. The best choice is not always the right choice but following the trends will win you money over time.

Jeremy Guthrie (FD: $6600, DK: $6200)
Pitching Stats:
2015: IP: 47 — SIERA: 5.37 — K Rate: 8.8% — K/9: 3.42 — BB Rate: 6.4% — FB Rate: 36.1% — HR/FB: 8.3%
2014: IP: 202 — SIERA: 4.34 — K Rate: 14.4% — K/9: 5.51 — BB Rate: 5.7% — FB Rate: 36.7% — HR/FB: 9.4%
New York Yankees vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.315 (Rank: 12)
Strikeout Rate: 19.6% (Rank: 11)
Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.93 (Rank: 3)
Analysis: Guthrie has really struggled this season with a 5.37 SIERA and a low K/9 of 3.4. He has always struggled mightily against left-handed hitters, which isn’t going to help his cause against the Yankees. New York’s lineup is full of batters that can hit from the left side of the plate. Guthrie can safely be avoided in Yankee Stadium, which is one of the best parks in baseball for left-handed hitters.
Pitcher Rating:29.2
Nathan Eovaldi (FD: $7300, DK: $6700)
Pitching Stats:
2015: IP: 45 — SIERA: 3.93 — K Rate: 18.1% — K/9: 7.09 — BB Rate: 6.5% — FB Rate: 28.6% — HR/FB: 16.7%
2014: IP: 199 — SIERA: 3.91 — K Rate: 16.6% — K/9: 6.40 — BB Rate: 5.0% — FB Rate: 32.9% — HR/FB: 6.6%
Kansas City Royals vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.332 (Rank: 2)
Strikeout Rate: 15.0% (Rank: 1)
Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.62 (Rank: 30)
Analysis: Eovaldi has been a nice addition to the Yankees’ starting rotation. On the season, he owns a 3.93 SIERA with a K/9 of 7.1. The issue with Eovaldi today is his matchup against the Royals. Targeting pitchers against Kansas City is not a viable long-term strategy in daily fantasy baseball. They are ranked 2nd in wOBA (.332) and 1st in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season.
Pitcher Rating:51.1

Analysis: Hosmer is one of the many left-handed hitters in the Royals’ lineup that may be able to take advantage of the short porch in right field in Yankee Stadium. He has been terrific against right-handed pitching this season with a .434 wOBA and a .268 ISO. He draws a favorable matchup against Nathan Eovaldi, who has given up a .345 wOBA to left-handed hitters.

Analysis: As mentioned above, all of the left-handed hitters in the Yankees’ lineup are in play today against Jeremy Guthrie. Since the start of 2014, Guthrie has given up a .370 wOBA to batters that hit from the left side of the plate. Gardner has hit right-handed pitching with a .354 wOBA this season. wOBA: 0.277 (Rank: 30)
Strikeout Rate: 20.3% (Rank: 17)
Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.82 (Rank: 13)
Analysis: Gonzalez may have a favorable matchup against the Mets, but he is not a recommended fantasy option. In his first few major league starts, he has posted a 5.29 SIERA with a low K/9 of 3.6. He’s a sizable favorite against in Citi Field and he can safely be avoided in all league formats.
Pitcher Rating:26.8
Bartolo Colon (FD: $7600, DK: $7200)
Pitching Stats:

wOBA: 0.278 (Rank: 28)
Strikeout Rate: 19.2% (Rank: 9)
Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.66 (Rank: 28)
Analysis: Even though he has been awful in his last two starts, Colon still has solid numbers on the season. He owns a 3.48 SIERA with a K/9 of 7.4. He is in a good spot to bounce back on Monday, as the Mets host a Phillies’ team that is currently ranked 28th in wOBA (.278) against right-handed pitching. The Phillies also average the 3rd-fewest pitches per plate appearance, which should help keep Colon’s pitch count per inning down.

wOBA: 0.300 (Rank: 19)
Strikeout Rate: 20.6% (Rank: 18)
Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.74 (Rank: 23)
Analysis: As usual, it’s easy to avoid any pitcher taking the mound for the Rockies. Like the rest of the starting rotation, Butler has not pitched well this season. He owns a 5.59 SIERA with a K/9 of 5.4. He is a sizable underdog against the Reds in the home run-friendly Great American Ballpark. He can safely be avoided in all league formats.

wOBA: 0.326 (Rank: 4)

Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.78 (Rank: 18)
Analysis: Marquis had a solid start to the season, but he’s regressed in his last few starts. He’s never been a high strikeout pitcher throughout his career and it’s hard to see him keeping his 4.07 SIERA that low for the remainder of the season. Even though he’s a favorite at home against the Rockies, he’s not on my radar.

Analysis: Blackmon has been the one consistent source of offense in the Rockies’ offense this season. He currently owns a .382 wOBA with a .196 ISO against right-handed pitching. He draws a favorable matchup against Jason Marquis, who has really struggled in his last few starts. Since the start of 2014, Butler has given up a .457 wOBA to left-handed hitters. The Reds’ offense is in a very good spot today.

wOBA: 0.303 (Rank: 23)
Strikeout Rate: 17.4% (Rank: 4)
Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.75 (Rank: 20)
Analysis: Keuchel has been dominant this season with a 3.33 SIERA and a K/9 of 6.4. He has the highest ground-ball rate of any starter in baseball, which helps him limit extra-base hits. It also helps him get out of trouble with a lot of double-play ground balls. He draws a mediocre matchup against the Orioles, who are ranked 23rd in wOBA (.303) and 4th in strikeout rate (17.4%) this season. He’s not my favorite ace on the mound today, but he’s certainly in play.

Analysis: Chen is a good real-life starter in the majors, but he’s not a great option in daily fantasy baseball. On the season, he owns a 4.18 SIERA and a K/9 of 6.9. He doesn’t walk a ton of batters, but he has a high fly-ball rate and an average HR/FB rate. He draws a favorable matchup against the Astros, but run support could be limited with Dallas Keuchel on the mound. Chen is a deep tournament play at best.

Analysis: Altuve has hit a rough stretch, but he’s still one of my favorite plays every time the Astros are facing a left-handed pitcher. He had a .440 wOBA in 2014 and he has a .405 wOBA against southpaws this season. He has good power for a leadoff hitter and he is always a threat to steal a base. Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.74 (Rank: 24)
Analysis: Lincecum is in play every now and then, but he’s typically an easy pitcher to avoid when he is on the road, especially in pitcher-friendly ballparks. Lincecum has a 4.41 SIERA on the season with a K/9 of 6.8. His HR/FB rate of 2.4% is unsustainable, especially when you look at his HR/FB rate throughout his career. He can safely be avoided against a Brewers’ offense that has been much better in recent weeks.

San Francisco Giants vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.325 (Rank: 6)
Strikeout Rate: 16.9% (Rank: 4)
Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.74 (Rank: 21)
Analysis: Lohse has been a serviceable starter for the Brewers this season. He has a 3.99 SIERA with a K/9 of 7.0. He has given up a ton of home runs this season, but we can expect his HR/FB rate of 15.2% to come down closer to the major league average. Lohse draws a difficult matchup today against the Giants, who are ranked 6th in wOBA (.325) and 4th in strikeout rate (16.9%) against right-handed pitching this season.

Analysis: Belt has really played well over the last couple of weeks. He has increased in wOBA to .431 on the season with a .240 ISO. He sees a ballpark boost playing in the hitter-friendly Miller Park and he draws a favorable matchup against Kyle Lohse, who as mentioned above, has given up a lot of home runs this season.

Analysis: Braun has quite a few trends converging for today’s contest against the Giants. He has been swinging a hot bat, he has good power against right-handed pitching, and he draws a favorable matchup against Tim Lincecum, who is a reverse-splits pitcher. Braun also has good career numbers off of Lincecum, going 8-for-25 with three home runs.
