Pitcher Grind Down
Ricky Nolasco (FD: $5400, DK: $4600)
Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 5.53 — K Rate: 11.3% — K/9: 4.85 — BB Rate: 9.7% — GB Rate: 33.3%
2014: SIERA: 4.06 — K Rate: 16.6% — K/9: 6.51 — BB Rate: 5.5% — GB Rate: 41.8%
Detroit Tigers vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.324 (Rank: 8)
Strikeout Rate: 18.9% (Rank: 10)
Analysis: Nolasco is one of the worst pitching options on the schedule tonight. He had a disappointing 2014 campaign and it’s been even worse here in the early part of the 2015 season. He has a 5.53 SIERA with a low K/9 of 4.9. He also has a very difficult matchup against the Tigers in Comerica Park.
Pitcher Rating:28.8
Kyle Lobstein (FD: $6700, DK: $5800)
Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 4.56 — K Rate: 11.0% — K/9: 4.09 — BB Rate: 8.0% — GB Rate: 57.4%
2014: SIERA: 4.35 — K Rate: 16.5% — K/9: 6.18 — BB Rate: 8.5% — GB Rate: 45.1%
Minnesota Twins vs. LH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.319 (Rank: 13)
Strikeout Rate: 17.7% (Rank: 7)
Analysis: Lobstein could be a cheap source for a win tonight, but he doesn’t offer much in terms of strikeout potential. He has a mediocre SIERA of 4.56 this season with a very low K/9 of 4.1. The Twins are a very capable offense and while I expect him to get plenty of run support, there isn’t enough upside with Lobstein tonight.
Pitcher Rating:39.2

Brian Dozier (FD: $3500, DK: $4800)
Position Eligibility: FD: 2B — DK: 2B
2015 vs. LH Pitching: wOBA: 0.342 — ISO: 0.174 — OBP: 0.346
2014 vs. LH Pitching: wOBA: 0.351 — ISO: 0.203 — OBP: 0.337
Analysis: Dozier and the other right-handed hitters in the Twins’ lineup are in a great spot tonight against Kyle Lobstein. Dozier is not your typical leadoff hitter, as he has plenty of power in his bat. Since the start of 2014, he has posted a .349 wOBA and a .197 ISO against left-handed pitching. His price is expensive on DraftKings, but at a very playable $3,500 on FanDuel.
Secondary Plays:

2014 vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.385 — ISO: 0.203 — OBP: 0.374
Analysis: Cabrera is priced under $5,000 on both FanDuel and DraftKings tonight. He is by no means a must play with the wealth of options at first base, but he should be considered one of the top plays at the position. He has a .389 wOBA and a .207 ISO against right-handed pitching since the start of 2014 and he draws a terrific matchup against Ricky Nolasco. The Tigers are one of the top offenses to target as a whole tonight.

Pitcher Grind Down
Adam Warren (FD: $6700, DK: $5200)
Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 5.07 — K Rate: 12.0% — K/9: 4.65 — BB Rate: 9.8% — GB Rate: 48.5%
2014: SIERA: 3.01 — K Rate: 23.5% — K/9: 8.69 — BB Rate: 7.4% — GB Rate: 45.4%
Tampa Bay Rays vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.303 (Rank: 20)
Strikeout Rate: 21.1% (Rank: 22)
Analysis: Warren’s numbers as a starter have been much worse than his numbers as a relief pitcher. Through his first six starts of the season, he has posted a 5.07 SIERA with a very low K/9 of 4.6. He walks too many batters and he doesn’t have the strikeout potential to make up for it. Even in a favorable matchup against the Rays, he can be avoided in all league formats tonight.
Pitcher Rating:56.2
Nate Karns (FD: $6500, DK: $6600)
Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 4.12 — K Rate: 23.0% — K/9: 8.48 — BB Rate: 11.5% — GB Rate: 49.5%
2014: SIERA: 3.24 — K Rate: 26.5% — K/9: 9.75 — BB Rate: 8.2% — GB Rate: 43.3%
New York Yankees vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.330 (Rank: 5)
Strikeout Rate: 19.1% (Rank: 11)
Analysis: Karns continues to play mind tricks on the DFS world. He will lure us in with one or two great starts in a row and then get shelled in his next outing. The strikeout numbers are there though, which puts him in consideration on most nights. He currently has a K/9 of 8.5, which is very high for a pitcher at his price point. Karns draws a tough matchup against the Yankees, but he makes a strong tournament play at home.

2014 vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.337 — ISO: 0.103 — OBP: 0.355
Analysis: First base is typically a position that we like to spend up on, but that doesn’t always have to be the case. I don’t like to box myself into a corner with that strategy, as we can miss out on great value at the position. Loney is a terrific option if you want to take a cheaper route at first base tonight. He has a good track record against right-handed pitching, he’ll be hitting in the middle of the order, and he draws a favorable matchup against Adam Warren.

Eric Stults (FD: $6000, DK: $5500)
Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 4.37 — K Rate: 15.1% — K/9: 5.6 — BB Rate: 4.8% — GB Rate: 39.5%
2014: SIERA: 4.33 — K Rate: 14.6% — K/9: 5.68 — BB Rate: 5.9% — GB Rate: 43.3%
Cincinnati Reds vs. LH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.321 (Rank: 9)
Strikeout Rate: 21.6% (Rank: 20)
Analysis: Stults is a below-average pitcher facing a very capable Reds’ offense. He’s not a great fantasy option tonight and not anytime in the near future either. On the season, Stults has a 4.37 SIERA with a K/9 of 5.6. He doesn’t walk many batters, but he doesn’t strike many out either. The Reds’ offense is the right side of this matchup to target.
Pitcher Rating:30.3
Raisel Iglesias (FD: $3000, DK: $5000)
Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 4.29 — K Rate: 19.1% — K/9: 7.2 — BB Rate: 9.5% — GB Rate: 46.2%
Atlanta Braves vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.318 (Rank: 10)
Strikeout Rate: 15.3% (Rank: 1)
Analysis: Iglesias will draw his second career start tonight, as they Reds need another starter after their doubleheader on Saturday. Iglesias gave up three earned runs in five innings of work in his major league debut. He has very low strikeout numbers in the minors this season (K/9 of 4.9) and that’s not going to improve in the majors. He could be a cheap source for the win, but we like to target pitchers that have a higher floor. Iglesias could easily get shelled against the Braves.
Pitcher Rating:50.0

2014 vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.388 — ISO: 0.188 — OBP: 0.397
Analysis: The big debate last night was whether to take Freddie Freeman or Joey Votto as the top first base option from the Braves/Reds game. That decision is easy tonight, as Votto will face a southpaw. Freeman on the other hand gets to face a rookie pitcher making his second career start. Freeman has always hit right-handed pitching well and this season is no different. He currently owns a .413 wOBA and a .236 ISO against righties.

Analysis: Frazier is one of the top plays at third base tonight. He has a great track record against left-handed pitching, posting a .396 wOBA and a .400 ISO this season. He also draws a favorable matchup against Eric Stults, who has given up a .346 wOBA to right-handed hitters since the start of 2014. Frazier also gives you the added benefit of both speed and power.

Jarred Cosart (FD: $7200, DK: $6300)
Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 4.17 — K Rate: 14.4% — K/9: 5.24 — BB Rate: 7.9% — GB Rate: 58.7%
2014: SIERA: 4.36 — K Rate: 15.0% — K/9: 5.74 — BB Rate: 9.5% — GB Rate: 54.2%
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.367 (Rank: 1)
Strikeout Rate: 20.1% (Rank: 17)
Analysis: Cosart is a serviceable real life pitcher, but he’s typically not a great fantasy option. He has a mediocre SIERA of 4.17 this season with a low K/9 of 5.2. He walks a good number of batters and he draws arguably the worst matchup on the board. He can safely be avoided against the Dodgers, who are ranked first in wOBA against right-handed pitching this season.
Pitcher Rating:37.2
Carlos Frias (FD: $6600, DK: $5100)
Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 2.96 — K Rate: 21.2% — K/9: 7.82 — BB Rate: 5.8% — GB Rate: 62.2%
2014: SIERA: 2.99 — K Rate: 21.2% — K/9: 8.07 — BB Rate: 5.1% — GB Rate: 52.0%
Miami Marlins vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.303 (Rank: 20)
Strikeout Rate: 21.9% (Rank: 25)
Analysis: Much like Mike Bolsinger in last night’s slate of game, Frias could be a very cheap source of a win tonight against the Marlins. He is a sizable favorite at home and he is expected to get plenty of run support. Frias has yet to throw more than 84 pitches in a single game this season, but he could give you 5-6 quality innings against a Marlins’ team that strikes out at the sixth highest rate against right-handed pitching this season. Frias is a viable SP2 tonight on multi-pitcher sites.

2014 vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.310 — ISO: 0.090 — OBP: 0.322
Analysis: Gordon has yet to record a hit against his former team, but the series isn’t over yet. He has been one of the most consistent fantasy options in all of baseball this season, as he has been racking up both hits and stolen bases. His stolen base potential goes up with a right-handed pitcher on the mound and he draws a favorable matchup against Carlos Frias, who has given up a .369 wOBA to left-handed hitters since the start of 2014.

2014 vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.384 — ISO: 0.236 — OBP: 0.362
Analysis: Jarred Cosart has an elite ground-ball rate, but that doesn’t mean that we have to avoid the hitters against him. The key is to avoid ground-ball hitters against ground-ball pitchers. Gonzalez hits nearly as many line drives (29%) as he does ground balls (31%). He has great power against right-handed pitching and he’s a very safe option tonight in cash games.

Texas Rangers vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.280 (Rank: 28)
Strikeout Rate: 21.4% (Rank: 23)
Analysis: Ventura has gotten off to a rocky start this season. He seems to get into it with his opponents every time he takes the mound and his inability to control his emotions has shown in his stats. He has a disappointing 4.31 SIERA this season with a K/9 of only 6.5. He does draw a favorable matchup against the Rangers, but I’d like to see him string together a couple of quality outings before using him in any league format.
Pitcher Rating:59.2
Yovani Gallardo (FD: $7000, DK: $6500)
Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 4.18 — K Rate: 17.8% — K/9: 6.98 — BB Rate: 8.3% — GB Rate: 50.8%

Kansas City Royals vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.329 (Rank: 6)
Strikeout Rate: 16.7% (Rank: 5)
Analysis: Once again, my two rules of thumb with pitchers is to avoid Coors Field and to avoid anyone facing the Royals. The Royals don’t strike out often and they are ranked in sixth or better in wOBA against both left and right-handed pitching this season. Gallardo doesn’t have a high enough strikeout rate to offset his bad matchup. He can safely be avoided tonight against Kansas City.

Adrian Beltre (FD: $3100, DK: $4500)
Position Eligibility: FD: 3B — DK: 3B
2015 vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.282 — ISO: 0.146 — OBP: 0.266
2014 vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.366 — ISO: 0.160 — OBP: 0.369
Analysis: Beltre’s price tag has finally reached the $3,000 mark on FanDuel, but he’s still underpriced for the type of production that he brings to the table. He is officially out of his slump to start the season, as he has four multi-hit games in his last seven, with six hits in his last three. He has always hit well at home and Yordano Ventura is a reverse-splits pitcher that gives up a higher wOBA to right-handed hitters than he does to left-handed hitters.
