Playbook

Major League Baseball has 14 evening games on tap for Friday, with plenty of big names scheduled to be on the bump – including AL Cy Young frontrunner Cam Schlittler toeing the rubber for the Yankees.

The forecast around the league looks pretty neutral overall, but it’s over 90 degrees in Colorado, which could make life difficult for pitchers. As always, it’s important to keep an eye on the MLB weather report before committing to any wagers.

Below, you can find three of my favorite picks for Friday, August 21st!

Best MLB Player Props for Friday, August 21st

Here are my top player prop bets for today, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:40 PM ET on Friday, August 21st:

Mason Fluharty OVER 2.5 Outs Recorded (-400, BetMGM)

This play is obviously juiced, but Major League Baseball has a 3-batter minimum rule that will force Fluharty to at least have a chance to cash this wager. The Yankees also have Ben Rice in the 4-hole and a couple more LHB batting 6th and 7th, which means Fluharty could have a decent leash to get out of the 1st inning.

Spencer Arrighetti was activated from the injured list this afternoon and is expected to pitch tonight, but managers usually like to give traditional starters a clean inning rather than inserting them in the middle of a jam. Fluharty should get a minimum of 4 batters to get 3 outs, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him get 6 or 7 batters faced if his pitch count is reasonable.

Brad Lord OVER 9.5 Outs Recorded (+127, Novig)

Lord didn’t make it out of the 1st inning in his most recent turn through the Washington rotation. That said, the plan for him in that outing was to get through 4 innings. The Nationals let him throw 44 pitches despite struggling to find the strike zone.

This time around, the Nationals will likely try once again to push Lord into the middle frames. Will Dion handled extended relief last Saturday when Lord struggled, but Dion threw 14 pitches on Wednesday, which makes it unlikely he’s capable of seeing a big workload this evening.

At plus money, this is good value for Lord to bounce back.

Noah Cameron UNDER 17.5 Outs Recorded (+114, DraftKings)

Cameron is coming off of a season-high 115 pitches in his most recent start against the Angels. That marked his 3rd consecutive game going over the century mark in pitches.

That type of workload has a tendency to catch up to a pitcher, especially when a team doesn’t build in extended rest between outings. Cameron is on a normal 4-day rest routine heading into Friday’s start against the Tigers.

We could see Cameron struggle in this spot. It’s also possible that Kansas City is slightly cautious with his workload after recent heavy usage. There is good value on the under here.
