Happy Friday! Major League Baseball has 15 games on tap to begin the weekend, with first pitch of tonight’s slate scheduled for 6:40 PM ET.
As always, it’s important to keep an eye on the MLB weather report before committing to any wagers. There are some rain delay concerns in Pittsburgh, Washington D.C., and New York, which could impact how long starting pitchers are able to last in those games.

Here are my top player prop bets for today, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:40 PM ET on Friday, August 7th:
- Zack Wheeler Over/Under 17.5 Outs Recorded
- George Klassen Over/Under 14.5 Outs Recorded
- Parker Messick Over/Under 17.5 Outs Recorded
Zack Wheeler OVER 17.5 Outs Recorded (-165, bet365)
BET365Wheeler faced only 7 batters in his most recent start due to a rain delay. Thus, he should be extremely fresh for tonight’s start against the Blue Jays. Philadelphia could certainly use some length from Wheeler after using each of Jhoan Duran, Orion Kerkering, Jonathan Bowlan, and Jose Alvarado twice in the last two days. It’s also worth noting that the Blue Jays have been one of the more aggressive offenses in baseball lately, which should help to keep Wheeler’s pitch count at a reasonable number. He should have every opportunity to get 18 outs.
George Klassen OVER 14.5 Outs Recorded (-140, BetMGM)
BETMGMKlassen didn’t make it out of the 3rd inning in either of his MLB starts in April, but he’s seemingly made some improvements in his command at Triple-A since being demoted. In his last 2 starts, he faced 52 batters without issuing a single walk.
Most notable from a betting perspective is that Klassen has been stretched out to as many as 101 pitches and as many as 27 batters faced in recent weeks. His promotion to the big leagues shouldn’t come with any significant workload restrictions.
Miami isn’t an ideal matchup for a young pitcher, but Klassen’s fastball/changeup mix should allow him to compete across the platoon. If he can find the zone with any regularity, Klassen should have every opportunity to get 15 outs in his return to the big leagues.
Parker Messick OVER 17.5 Outs Recorded (-161, DraftKings)
DRAFTKINGSMessick hasn’t been incredibly efficient of late, but he still has a 1.57 ERA, 2.75 xERA, 3.30 FIP, and 1.05 WHIP across his last 5 starts.
Tonight, he should be given every opportunity to get through 6 innings after the Guardians heavily used their arm barn in their most recent series against the Mets. Manager Stephen Vogt would probably like to avoid using Slade Cecconi, Matt Festa, Craig Yoho, and Tim Herrin unless absolutely necessary.
Vogt is aggressive with his bullpen usage, and tonight’s game has significant playoff stakes, but there is still a good chance Messick gets 18 outs. It’s also worth noting that the White Sox had to travel from Boston to Chicago late last night after losing a heartbreaker in extra innings – a game that lasted more than 4 hours.
