Happy Friday! Major League Baseball will begin America’s 250th celebration weekend with a 13-game slate, 12 of which have a scheduled first pitch of 6:45 p.m. ET or later.
As always, it’s important to keep an eye on the MLB weather report before committing to any wagers. The heat wave across the country is still in full effect, with the forecast temperature near 100 degrees in Washington, New York, Cincinnati, and Cleveland this evening.
Below, you can find three of my favorite picks for Friday, July 3rd!
Best MLB Player Props for Friday, July 3rd
Here are my top player prop bets for today, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:45 PM ET on Friday, July 3rd:
- Gavin Williams Over/Under 17.5 Outs Recorded
- Christian Scott Over/Under 15.5 Outs Recorded
- Shohei Ohtani Over/Under 17.5 Outs Recorded
Gavin Williams UNDER 17.5 Outs Recorded (-107, DraftKings)
Cleveland’s high-leverage arms are as rested as they have been at any point this season entering the holiday weekend. Williams hasn’t completed 6 innings in an outing since May 27, and tonight, he will have the added difficulty of facing a red-hot White Sox offense. Given the AL Central stakes involved in this contest, it’s also possible that manager Stephen Vogt has a quicker-than-normal hook if Williams runs into trouble in the 6th inning. There is value on the under at this price.
Christian Scott UNDER 15.5 Outs Recorded (-155, BetMGM)
In his return from injury, Scott only faced 18 batters against the Phillies on June 27. Atlanta’s offense has struggled in recent weeks, but they aren’t overly aggressive, which means they could elevate Scott’s pitch count early in this contest. The Braves aren’t a particularly high-contact lineup, which could lead to some deeper counts even if Scott is throwing the ball well. Factor in a fresh New York arm barn, and this feels very much like a 5-and-dive spot.
Shohei Ohtani OVER 17.5 Outs Recorded (-200, Caesars)
If there is one thing that Dave Roberts hates, it’s overusing his arm barn. Last night, Roki Sasaki lasted only 3 innings against the Padres, which meant the Dodgers bullpen had to use 6 relievers to finish the contest. Ohtani has been battling some nagging injuries of late, but he’s still managed to complete 6+ innings in 12 of 13 starts this season. Roberts is likely to give him every opportunity to get 18 outs once again this evening.
