Happy Monday! Major League Baseball has 8 games on tap to begin the new week, starting with the Nationals against the Phillies at 6:40 PM ET.
As always, it’s important to keep an eye on the MLB weather report before committing to any wagers. There are no extreme forecasts around the league tonight, but it’s on the cooler side in Chicago, and wind could be a factor in Colorado – both things to note.
Below, you can find three of my favorite picks for Monday, August 3rd!
Best MLB Player Props for Monday, August 3rd
Here are my top player prop bets for today, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:40 PM ET on Monday, August 3rd:
- Cam Schlittler Over/Under 7.5 Strikeouts
- Bubba Chandler Over/Under 15.5 Outs Recorded
- Cal Quantrill Over/Under 15.5 Outs Recorded
Cam Schlittler UNDER 7.5 Strikeouts (-156, DraftKings)
Tonight’s Cardinals lineup only features 2 hitters who have a K% above 21.1% against RHP since the beginning of June: Jordan Walker and Jimmy Crooks (the latter of whom is in the 9-hole). Schlittler’s K% is 7% lower against righties than lefties this season, which also limits his upside in this matchup, considering the Cardinals have 4 righties in the lineup. Schlittler has also been pulled shy of 100 pitches in 4 consecutive starts – he has eclipsed 100 pitches in only 2 starts since May 20th.
There are reasons to think that a high-contact Cardinals offense could put enough balls in play to keep Schlittler under this number.
Bubba Chandler UNDER 15.5 Outs Recorded (-149, DraftKings)
Chandler has faced exactly 21 batters in each of his last 4 starts, and he has managed to complete 5 innings in only 1 of those starts. The Pirates’ arm barn isn’t in great shape heading into the new week, but neither is it obliterated.
The Pirates would likely be thrilled to get 5 innings from Chandler in this spot, facing a Milwaukee lineup that ranks 6th in wRC+ against RHP during the last 14 days.
Cal Quantrill UNDER 15.5 Outs Recorded (-171, DraftKings)
Since joining the Rangers rotation, Quantrill has faced 21 batters or fewer in 6 of his 7 appearances, which includes a couple of abbreviated outings. Ahead of first pitch tonight, the Rangers have a mostly rested arm barn following a weekend of light usage for their higher-leverage guys.
Quantrill has benefited from some good luck on balls in play of late. He’s not missing many bats, nor is he working ahead in the count at a high rate. Both of those things could lead to some inefficient at-bats this evening. There is a high likelihood that Quantrill is done after 15 outs – or sooner – especially given that he’s topped 79 pitches in only 1 appearance all season.
