Happy Thursday! Major League Baseball has 11 games on tap for today, beginning at 12:35 PM ET with the Angels taking on the Orioles. In total, there are 6 afternoon games on the board, with the other 5 games scheduled for a first pitch of 6:05 PM ET or later.
As always, it’s important to keep an eye on the MLB weather report before committing to any wagers. The forecast on the East Coast is warm, which should be a boon for offense. Most notably, the temperature is forecast to be around 90 degrees with 10-mph winds blowing out to right field in Philadelphia.
Below, you can find three of my favorite picks for Thursday, August 6th!
Best MLB Player Props for Thursday, August 6th
Here are my top player prop bets for today, with the first pitch scheduled for 12:35 PM ET on Thursday, August 6th:
- Ranger Suarez Over/Under 15.5 Outs Recorded
- Ranger Suarez Over/Under 5.5 Strikeouts
- Michael Wacha Over/Under 18.5 Outs Recorded
Ranger Suarez UNDER 15.5 Outs Recorded (+104, DraftKings)
Since returning from the injured list, Suarez has faced 15 batters and 18 batters in his 2 starts. He hasn’t topped 65 pitches in either of those outings either.
A reasonable projection for Suarez tonight has him around 80 pitches and 20 batters faced. If that is the case, he would need to be extremely effective to have a chance at the 6th inning, especially with a rested Boston arm barn behind him.
Ranger Suarez UNDER 5.5 Strikeouts (+120, DraftKings)
It’s not a secret that the White Sox swing-and-miss a lot. Nevertheless, they don’t take many called strikes – the 6th fewest in the big leagues across the last 14 days. Suarez doesn’t miss many bats, instead relying on his command to generate strikeouts.
In 2 starts since returning from the injured list, Suarez has posted a 7.8% SwStr% and a 9.2% SwStr% – both of which are a healthy margin worse than the league average.
Even if Suarez works into the 6th inning, there is no guarantee that he manages 6 strikeouts. This is good value at plus money.
Michael Wacha UNDER 18.5 Outs Recorded (-168, DraftKings)
Wacha has consistently been working deep into games for Kansas City this summer, but tonight might be a situation in which he has a slightly shorter leash than we are used to seeing. Other than Steven Cruz, no member of the Kansas City arm barn has thrown more than 16 pitches across the last 3 days. That means manager Matt Quatraro has no shortage of rested options to deploy for the 7th, 8th, and 9th inning as needed.
It’s also worth noting that Wacha hasn’t been particularly efficient of late. In July, he averaged 4 pitches per batter faced, which is a healthy margin above the league average. His underlying metrics aren’t overly impressive either – he hasn’t been missing many bats, nor has he done a particularly good job limiting quality contact.
Minnesota doesn’t have a potent offense, but they should be able to get into the Kansas City bullpen by the 7th inning if they can simply work a few deep counts and avoid hitting into multiple double plays.
