MLB Player Props Today
Zack Littell Over/Under 3.5 Strikeouts
Joey Cantillo Over/Under 1.5 Walks Allowed
Jack Flaherty Over/Under 3.5 Hits Allowed
Zack Littell OVER 3.5 Strikeouts (-145), BetMGM
Zack Littell has struggled mightily on the mound of late, but this is still a very very low market number. As bad as Littell has been in recent weeks, he’s still recorded 4+ strikeouts in 6 of his last 7 turns through the rotation, with his lone miss during that stretch coming against the contact-oriented Guardians. Across the last 14 days, Houston’s offense ranks 19th in contact% on pitches out of the zone and 18th in contact% on pitches in the strike zone. They aren’t taking many called strikes, but they have a higher swinging strike rate during that span than all but five teams. This is a very playable number, even if it doesn’t feel great.
Joey Cantillo OVER 1.5 Walks Allowed (-155), BetMGM
Pitching at Triple-A this season, Joey Cantillo had a dreadful 13.6% walk rate against right-handed batters. Baltimore’s lineup might not go with a complete RHB stack tonight against Cantillo, but they are likely to make life difficult for the young southpaw regardless. Cantillo has made 1 start at the MLB level this year, walking 3 of the 18 batters he faced. In 8 minor league starts, he’s walked 2+ batters in all but one trip to the hill. The Orioles have a patient lineup, which should give them every opportunity to earn a pair of bases on balls in this spot.
Jack Flaherty OVER 3.5 Hits Allowed (-175), DraftKings
The hit rate community isn’t going to like this one, but there are a lot of things pointing towards Jack Flaherty allowing 4+ hits this evening despite holding his opponents to 3 hits or fewer in 6 of his last 8 turns through the rotation. During that ostensibly impressive stretch, Flaherty has benefited from an unsustainable .192 BABIP and 94.2% strand rate despite allowing a double-digit barrel rate. He’s also pitching to a new catcher for the first time in a Los Angeles uniform and is on extended rest, which isn’t always a good thing for pitchers, who are creatures of habit. Oakland’s bats have rapidly cooled off during the last week after a torrid July, but they should still be able to get to Flaherty for at least a handful of base knocks.
