Happy Wednesday! Today’s MLB slate has 15 games on tap, including 5 afternoon games. There are plenty of underwhelming starting pitchers scheduled to throw, which could create some intriguing options for the betting community in the prop market.
As always, be sure to monitor our MLB starting lineups page throughout the day, as unexpected changes in the batting order can result in value opportunities in the betting and DFS markets.
Another reminder – it’s not a bad beat, or unlucky, if you bet a player to hit a home run and his fly ball dies on the warning track because it’s 40 degrees with the wind blowing in! Before locking in any bets, use our MLB weather page, curated by Chief Meteorologist, Kevin Roth. There are countless edges to be found if we make the right reads on possible rain delays and great hitting weather, just to name a few. Taking a look at the weather report can save us from a bad bet that otherwise looks good on the surface.

Best MLB Player Props for Wednesday, April 16th
Here are my top player prop bets for today, with the first pitch scheduled for 1:07 PM ET on Wednesday, April 16th:
- Jose Ramirez Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases
- Brandon Pfaadt Over/Under 17.5 Outs Recorded
- Nick Pivetta Over/Under 1.5 Earned Runs
Jose Ramirez UNDER 1.5 Total Bases (-150, bet365)
Ramirez is off to a lukewarm start this season, with only 1 multi-hit game since April 4th. He gets a favorable matchup against Dean Kremer, but Kremer has historically struggled with his command against lefties, which could lead to Ramirez potentially drawing a walk or two. Of course, walks don’t count towards total bases. Ramirez could have a productive day at the plate and still fall under this number.
Brandon Pfaadt UNDER 17.5 Outs Recorded (+139, Caesars)
Pfaadt has completed 6 innings in each of his first 3 starts this season, but he’s been doing so on relatively thin margins. In his most recent start (against the Orioles), Pfaadt faced only 21 batters but still managed to record 18 outs. Tonight, he will face a Miami lineup that could feature as many as 7 lefties. Pfaadt has consistently struggled across the platoon early in his career, which could lean to some inefficiencies in this spot.
Nick Pivetta OVER 1.5 Earned Runs (-170, DraftKings)
In 2 starts against non-Cubs teams to begin 2025, Pivetta has thrown 14 innings of scoreless baseball. However, in his lone start against the Cubs, he allowed 3 earned runs in 3 innings. Today, he will have to contend with the Cubs once again, and they enter play ranked 6th in wRC+ against RHP this season. The Cubs should be able to get to Pivetta for at least a pair of runs.
