What kind of performances can we expect on Wednesday from Tanner Houck, Taijuan Walker, and Logan Allen? MLB fans were treated to some afternoon baseball to begin their Wednesday, but there are still 6 games left to get underway this evening, giving bettors plenty of time to find a few plays to their liking.
As always, be sure to monitor our MLB starting lineups page throughout the day, as unexpected changes in the batting order can result in value opportunities in the betting and DFS markets.
Another reminder – it’s not a bad beat, or unlucky, if you bet a player to hit a home run and his fly ball dies on the warning track because it’s 40 degrees with the wind blowing in! Before locking in any bets, use our MLB weather page, curated by Chief Meteorologist, Kevin Roth. There are countless edges to be found if we make the right reads on possible rain delays and great hitting weather, just to name a few. Taking a look at the weather report can save us from a bad bet that otherwise looks good on the surface.

Best MLB Player Props for Wednesday, April 9th
Here are my top player prop bets for today:
- Tanner Houck Over/Under 17.5 Outs Recorded
- Taijuan Walker Over/Under 5.5 Hits Allowed
- Logan Allen Over/Under 15.5 Outs Recorded
Tanner Houck UNDER 17.5 Outs Recorded (-110, DraftKings)
Houck has not been very good so far in 2025. Through 2 starts, he owns a 6.52 ERA, 6.24 xERA, 7.31 FIP, and 1.76 WHIP. Those aren’t the numbers of a pitcher who will routinely make it through 6 innings on days he starts games. The weather forecast isn’t great in Boston tonight, but the Red Sox have a nearly fully rested bullpen behind Houck, so there isn’t likely to be any desperation to get him through 18 outs. If he needs a quick hook in the 6th, expect manager Alex Cora to go get him.
Taijuan Walker UNDER 5.5 Hits Allowed (-140, DraftKings)
Walker has been an auto-fade in recent seasons, but that is no longer the case. This past winter, Walker did a weighted ball program that helped him regain some lost velocity, something that was fully evident in his first turn through the rotation, blanking the Rockies across 6 innings of work. We shouldn’t expect Walker to be an ace in 2025, but he’s certainly better than the market is currently pricing him to be, creating some value on the under.
Logan Allen OVER 15.5 Outs Recorded (+115, DraftKings)
Entering play on Wednesday, the White Sox offense ranks 27th in wRC+ against southpaws in 2025 in an admittedly small sample size. Tonight, Allen gets to face that anemic offense in a pitcher-friendly environment with temperatures projected to be in the mid-40s, with a slight breeze blowing in from right field. Cleveland also used 4 relievers yesterday, so they’ll likely take any length Allen is able to give them with the hope of potentially avoiding using their high-leverage guys 3 days in a row looking ahead to Thursday. Allen should be good for 90+ pitches, which should give him a chance to come out for the 6th inning.
