Wednesday’s MLB action began earlier this afternoon with a trio of day games, but there are still 12 games left to get underway as part of this evening’s slate. MacKenzie Gore, Chris Sale, and Tony Gonsolin headline what should be an entertaining night of baseball around the league.

As always, be sure to monitor our MLB starting lineups page throughout the day, as unexpected changes in the batting order can result in value opportunities in the betting and DFS markets.

Another reminder – it’s not a bad beat, or unlucky, if you bet a player to hit a home run and his fly ball dies on the warning track because it’s 40 degrees with the wind blowing in! Before locking in any bets, use our MLB weather page, curated by Chief Meteorologist, Kevin Roth. There are countless edges to be found if we make the right reads on possible rain delays and great hitting weather, just to name a few. Taking a look at the weather report can save us from a bad bet that otherwise looks good on the surface.

Best MLB Player Props for Wednesday, June 4th

Here are my top player prop bets for today, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:40 PM ET on Tuesday, June 4th:

MacKenzie Gore UNDER 17.5 Outs Recorded (+102, FanDuel)

Gore has made it through 6 innings in each of his last 2 starts, but he’s faced 21 and 22 batters in those games. Put another way, he’s only narrowly recorded 18 outs despite being nearly flawless on the bump. The Cubs haven’t been overly productive against southpaws of late, but they are a patient group that works a fair number of deep counts. Gore is averaging an inefficient 4.23 pitches per batter faced during the last month, which could get him into trouble in this matchup. There is value on the under.

Luis Ortiz OVER 4.5 Strikeouts (-150, DraftKings)

Across his last 9 turns through the Cleveland rotation, Ortiz owns a 28.5% strikeout rate. During that stretch, he’s done a good job working ahead in counts, which has helped him generate a healthy rate of swings-and-misses. He gets to face a Yankees lineup that ranks 24th in O-Contact%, 23rd in Z-Contact%, and 21st in Called Strike% during the last 14 days of action. If Ortiz can keep enough runs off of the board to make it through 5 innings, he should have every opportunity to get the job done here.

Cade Povich OVER 5.5 Strikeouts (-105, DraftKings)

Povich has generated a 35.3% strikeout rate across his last 3 starts, facing the Nationals, Red Sox, and Cardinals. This evening, he gets to face the Mariners – an offense that has struck out more frequently against southpaws than all of the aforementioned teams during the last 30 days. Run prevention is always a concern for Povich, but his recent increase in curveball usage against righties should continue to give him opportunities to earn strikeouts.
