Happy Wednesday! The playoff race in both the American League and National League is in full swing, which led to some entertaining baseball yesterday evening. The Guardians erased a 2-0 deficit to beat the Tigers and move into 1st place in the AL Central. The Yankees walked off the White Sox to pull within 1 game of the Blue Jays in the AL East. The Mets came back from down 5-1 to beat the Cubs and move into the final Wild Card spot in the National League. The Diamondbacks erased their own 4-0 deficit against the Dodgers en route to a walk-off win to keep pace in that exciting race.

As always, be sure to monitor our MLB starting lineups page throughout the day, as unexpected changes in the batting order can result in value opportunities in the betting and DFS markets.

Another reminder – it’s not a bad beat, or unlucky, if you bet a player to hit a home run and his fly ball dies on the warning track because it’s 40 degrees with the wind blowing in! Before locking in any bets, use our MLB weather page, curated by Chief Meteorologist, Kevin Roth. There are countless edges to be found if we make the right reads on possible rain delays and great hitting weather, just to name a few. Taking a look at the weather report can save us from a bad bet that otherwise looks good on the surface.

Below, you can find my 3 picks for Wednesday, September 24th!

Best MLB Player Props for Wednesday, September 24

Here are my top player prop bets for today, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35 PM ET on Wednesday, September 24th:

Matthew Boyd OVER 15.5 Outs Recorded (+134, FanDuel)

Boyd has struggled mightily in recent weeks, posting a 5.77 ERA, 4.75 FIP, and 1.33 WHIP across his last 8 turns in the rotation. Still, during that span, he’s recorded an out in the 6th inning 5 times and he’s only once failed to complete 5 innings.

Tonight, Boyd gets to face a Mets lineup that has struggled to an 83 wRC+ against southpaws during the last 14 days. The weather at Wrigley Field this evening also looks like it will be on the pitcher-friendly side, with temperatures in the mid-60s and decent winds blowing in from left field around first pitch.

The Cubs bullpen isn’t in bad shape, but it’s also worth noting that they had to use 6 different relievers yesterday after Cade Horton exited early with a back injury. Boyd will probably have an opportunity to work into the 6th inning this evening if he’s somewhat effective.

Tanner Gordon OVER 15.5 Outs Recorded (-125, FanDuel)

Last night, the Mariners clinched a playoff berth, which means they also had quite the post-game party in their locker room. Seattle still hasn’t clinched the AL West division, but their magic number is down to 1 after last night.

The hangover effect is real for many teams in these situations the following day after celebrating a playoff berth or division title. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Seattle’s offense get off to a slow start. T-Mobile Park is also one of the most pitcher-friendly venues in baseball, and Tanner Gordon has been throwing the ball well of late, so there is a chance he gets into the 6th inning even without any hangover effects on Seattle’s offense.

Ryne Nelson UNDER 16.5 Outs Recorded (-116, DraftKings)

Entering play on Wednesday, the Diamondbacks are only 1 game out of the final Wild Card position in the National League. Consequently, each game they play this week has playoff implications.

Nelson has some of the worst time-through-the-order (TTO) splits of any starter in the big leagues. This season, in his 3rd TTO, Nelson owns a 5.40 ERA and a 5.41 FIP. Arizona has a rested bullpen, including three southpaws whom they could entrust to face Shohei Ohtani and/or Freddie Freeman in a sticky situation.
