MLB Parlay Piece for May 26, 2023
- Jesus Luzardo 8+ strikeouts
- Mike Trout to record a hit
- Under 8
Jesus Luzardo 8+ strikeouts (+280)
In his last start, Jesus Luzardo had eight strikeouts against the San Francisco Giants, which rank 22nd in strikeout percentage as a team against left-handed pitching during the month of May. Tonight, Luzardo gets another favorable matchup against the Los Angeles Angels, which rank 20th in strikeout percentage against southpaws since May 1. Tonight is the series opener between the Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Angels, so we do not have an umpire assignment yet, to help us understand if this play will get a boost or be hindered in any way. Nevertheless, Luzardo is a pitcher who is more than capable of generating enough swings and misses on his own to give this play a chance.
Mike Trout to record a hit (-195)
Mike Trout has not had much power production yet in 2023 against left-handed pitching, but he has done a good job making contact nonetheless. Entering play on Friday, Trout owns a .292 batting average against left-handed pitching. His 5.9% walk rate against southpaws also reduces the chance that he gets walked this evening, which obviously eliminates one of his at-bats. Trust Trout to put wood on the ball in this spot – hopefully, he can find some grass.
Under 8 (+100)
In 10 starts this year, Jesus Luzardo has allowed three earned runs or less eight times. In eight starts, Reid Detmers has allowed three earned runs or less six times. Simply, these are two starting pitchers who rarely implode on the mound. Tonight, both starting pitchers get relatively favorable matchups against opposing lineups that have produced near league-average numbers against southpaws during the month of May. Expect scoring to be at a premium tonight. Take the under.
