Wednesday’s MLB action featured six afternoon contests, but there is still plenty of opportunity left for the betting community if they were stuck at work during the day. The evening slate has nine games on tap, beginning at 6:40 p.m. EST in Miami.

Not counting the All-Star Game, we have cashed five tickets in this article, narrowly missed 19 winners, and had 17 tickets seemingly dead on arrival. Playing longshot parlays each day, these results are within the parameters of what is expected.

In this article, we never post a ticket with shorter than +700 odds, meaning that we only need to hit once each week to be profitable. Overall, these plays are 64-55-1 (55.0%) if played as straight wagers, many of which have been significant alt-lines, even as individual tickets.

MLB Parlay Piece for August 2, 2023

Over 11.5 (+140)

Wrigley Field is one of the oldest ballparks in the MLB, and its construction allows wind to play a major role in home games for the Chicago Cubs on a daily basis. In January 2007, Chris Constancio documented in The Hardball Times that “more than 23% of fly balls result in home runs when the wind is blowing strongly toward the ivy-covered outfield walls, but only 13% of fly balls result in home runs when the wind is blowing in from the outfield.” Tonight, the wind is forecasted to be blowing out nearly 10 mph to left field around first pitch. Fans could be in for an extremely high-scoring game this evening in Chicago.

Seiya Suzuki 3+ Total Bases (+195)

Seiya Suzuki has been at his best against southpaws in 2023, with a .276 batting average, .745 OPS, and a 103 wRC+. In 110 plate appearances against left-handed pitching, Suzuki has eight extra-base hits. Brandon Williamson has struggled to a 5.66 FIP against right-handed batters this year, with 10 home runs allowed across the platoon. Expect a big night from Suzuki in this spot.

Drew Smyly u5.5 Strikeouts (-152)

Since July 1, the Cincinnati Reds have struck out at the 12th-lowest rate of any team in the league against left-handed pitching. According to props.cash, six of the last eight left-handed pitchers to have started against the Reds have gone under their pre-game market number for strikeouts. Tripp Gibson, a strikeout-friendly umpire, is calling balls and strikes in this one, but that is the only major red flag here.
