MLB Parlay Piece for August 23, 2023

Los Angeles Dodgers -3.5 (+176)

Yesterday, the math all pointed in one direction – a convincing Los Angeles Dodgers win. The final score did not look at all how we anticipated, but the beauty of baseball is that these two teams are right back at it again tonight. The Dodgers once again have a sizable starting pitching advantage, with an offense that is superior to the Cleveland Guardians in at least seven spots in the lineup. Do not be surprised if Los Angeles takes out yesterday’s frustrations in a big way this evening against an inferior opponent.

Freddie Freeman 2+ Total Bases (-135)

Despite his recent “slump,” Freddie Freeman has still been a tough out of late. Yesterday, Freeman barreled up another baseball and had a hard-hit ball for his third consecutive game. Across the last two weeks, there have only been three games in which Freeman has failed to record a hard-hit ball. Simply, he has not had the best luck on balls in play, evident from his .250 BABIP in that stretch. In a favorable matchup this evening, Freeman is once again well-positioned for some hard contact. Let’s hope it finds some grass.

Jose Ramirez 2+ Total Bases (+105)

Clayton Kershaw has done a good job keeping runs off of the board in his first two starts since returning from the injured list, but his peripherals suggest that he has been more vulnerable than what appears on the surface. In his two starts, he has not missed many bats, with only a 9.4% swinging-strike rate. He has also allowed an abundance of hard contact. Even in a losing effort, Jose Ramirez is capable of collecting a couple of total bases in this matchup.
