NBA Advanced Matchups: Saturday, April 25th

Welcome to the NBA Advanced Matchups, presented by Ohnjz. I’ll be taking you deep into the depths of NBA advanced stats to uncover the top plays in each NBA slate (with 4 or more games). We’ll consider a broad spectrum of metrics here, including SPORTSVU player and shot tracking, play type data, individual defensive metrics, and my personal favorite, Ohnjz’ bad-jokes-and-snarky-comments-per-article.

As always, this work is meant as a guide to help you hone in on what advanced stats would suggest are some of the top plays – but it’s ultimately up to you to decide how to build your lineups.

UNDER THE MICROSCOPE

WARRIORS PF DRAYMOND GREEN

Draymond Green

The poster boy from the last Warriors-themed AMP, Draymond Green ground out yet-another elite line in Game 3:

GAME 3: (40 MINUTES) 12 POINTS, 17 REBOUNDS, 5 ASSISTS, 3 STEALS, 1 BLOCK = 50ISH FPTS

This guy can really stuff a box score. Despite his complete lack of superstar flash, Green has put up DFS production in this series only surpassed by guys named Steph Curry and Anthony Davis. Check out his postseason averages so far, along with where those averages rank among all the Warriors:

DRAYMOND GREEN: 41.5 MINUTES (#1), 13.7 POINTS (#3), 13.7 REBOUNDS (#1), 5.7 ASSISTS (#2), 3.0 STEALS (#1), 1.3 BLOCKS (#2)

That’s elite production both for us and for his team… and it’s going to continue tonight. The great thing about Dray is that he contributes in soooo many areas that his floor is very high. Consider that he hasn’t scored more than 15 real points in a single game this series – yet he’s scored 45+ FPTS in all 3 games. As I mentioned last time, we can just throw the Pelicans’ PF DVP (7th fewest FPPG to PF this season) out the window when talking about Draymond, because he grinds so much production in areas other than scoring. So if Dray were suddenly to shoot better than 45% in a game this series, or shoot better than 33% from 3, he could easily threaten 55-60 FPT range. He’s already given you Anthony Davis-level output in 2 games this series, for several thousand less salary, and is certainly capable of doing so again tonight. While there’s some monster names on the PF slate tonight, consider leaving enough room for our favorite Grinder in your lineups tonight.
