NBA Best Bets Today – Wednesday, December 27
- Toronto Raptors at Washington Wizards (+2.5) – 1st Quarter
- Phoenix Suns at Houston Rockets (+3.5)
- Cleveland Cavaliers at Dallas Mavericks (Under 232.5)
Toronto Raptors at Washington Wizards (+2.5) – 1st Quarter
This season has not gone according to plan for the 5-24 Wizards, but neither has it gone well for the 11-18 Raptors. However, during the last month, Washington has at least come out of the gate with some energy in the opening quarter of action – ranking 17th in Net Rating. In that same stretch, the Raptors rank 27th in Net Rating in the first quarter of games and have been outscored by 14.3 points per 100 possessions. Washington is also 2-1 straight up and 3-0 ATS in the first quarter on the second leg of back-to-back sets this season. Trust the home underdogs to get out to a respectable start this evening.
Phoenix Suns at Houston Rockets (+3.5)
The Rockets will be without Dillon Brooks tonight, but they have played well without him, ranking in the 95th percentile in defensive efficiency. At this point in the season, there is not much evidence to suggest that the Suns are a good basketball team, despite the presence of Kevin Durant and Devin Booker on the roster. In the last month, only the Wizards, Spurs, Hornets, and Pistons have a worse Net Rating than the Suns. Washington, San Antonio, Charlotte, and Detroit have combined to go 5-45 in that span – not exactly good company for Phoenix to find themselves. Houston is 12-3 on their home floor this year and should be able to keep this contest competitive, at a minimum. Do not be surprised if they find a way to win outright.
Cleveland Cavaliers at Dallas Mavericks (Under 232.5)
Since Evan Mobley last played on December 6, the Cavaliers rank 14th in offensive efficiency, 14th in defensive efficiency, and 30th in pace. Since Kyrie Irving last played on December 8, the Mavericks rank 19th in offensive efficiency, 16th in defensive efficiency, and 8th in pace. Each of Cleveland’s last four road games have finished with 233 points or fewer, and three of them have finished with 223 points or fewer. The under makes sense in this spot, especially if the Cavaliers are able to win the rebounding battle on Wednesday.
