NBA Betting Picks for Thursday: Nets at Spurs

It’s safe to say that the Spurs have been a bit of a letdown this season. After competing in the playoffs for the part of the last two decades, they currently sit at 12th in the Western Conference with a record of 10-16. The Nets, on the other hand, have done pretty well considering they are missing three of their best players in Durant, LeVert, and Irving. The nets are 7th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 15-12 and would be in the playoffs if the season ended today.

In the past the Spurs have been a drastically better team at home than on the road and this season has been similar, but not to the same extent. They currently own a record of 7-7 at home and a 3-9 record on the road, however, they have been the second-worst team in the league to bet on at home going 3-11 ATS including a 1-9 ATS record as a home favorite. This is a drastic departure from last year where they were 26-18 ATS at home. Overall, the Spurs have been a bad team to bet on whether on the road or at home this season. The Spurs have begun to look better with Murray playing more minutes, but the view that they are a dominant home team is a thing of the past.

Much like the Spurs, the Nets have been much better at home this season going 8-5 compared to 7-7 on the road. They have been playing some good basketball as they enter the night on a two-game winning streek and have won six or their last 10. Dinwiddie, Jordan, Price, and Allen have all been playing some great basketball, and it’s surprising that the Nets’ trio is an underdog against a team as bad as the Spurs, even if they are on the road. Overall, I think the Nets are a much better team at this point even missing some of their best players.

I’m taking the points and rolling with the Nets, who I think is the superior team. This line is probably inflated to an extent because of the Spurs’ historic dominance at home. I think the Nets win this one outright here, so I don’t mind the moneyline, but I’m taking the points in what will likely be a fairly close game.
