NBA Bird Review: Wednesday, March 16th
The Grinder review series will provide the reader with a breakdown of the exposures of “top of the leaderboard” players, the top single-entry lineup, and a comparison between all single entry lineups and professionals for Wednesday slate GPPs.
This week we looked at the $300k Wednesday Bird [$50k to 1st!] on DraftKings with a buy-in of $33.
Multi-Entry Grinders of the Game
Over 200 entries, 00oreo00 spread out his ownership percentages almost equally between a handful of players at each position (~10-20% each) except for the PG and PF positions. With Toney Douglas and Brandon Jennings thrust into starting roles and Lebron James taking a rest day which opened up the door for easy value with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love, 00oreo00 jumped at the opportunity and plugged each in a majority of lineups. Spreading his ownership levels over many players allowed him to land a sixth place finish but did not lead to a high cash rate (he cashed in just 28% of lineups; with a larger core of players who perform well, we have seen 50%+ cash rates in these GPPs).

With just 44 entries, Banders234 employed the opposite strategy in owning at least one player at each position over 59%. With all of his core group of players, besides Jared Sullinger, hitting 6x salary, Banders enjoyed a solid cash rate of 54.5%. While the core strategy allowed him to profit a nice amount over this slate, whiffing on one of the core players (Sullinger: 2.75x @ $6k salary) crippled him from attaining a top place finish.

Single-Entry Winner of the Game
As the highest finish single-entry player on the board in third place, fatboi employed a mostly contrarian lineup from various teams mixed in with an obvious value play in Brandon Jennings. All of his players besides John Wall and an inconsistent Matt Barnes had been hot over their last few games (Brandon Jennings being an injury fill-in) and were in neutral to slightly positive positional matchups.

Single-Entry vs. 00oreo00/banders234
Out of 10,449 entries in the Bird, 2524 (24.2%) of those entries were entered courtesy of players using a single bullet. The table below compares the exposures of those single entries to the exposures of 00oreo00, banders234, and 25 other top professionals picked off of RotoGrinders’ leaderboard:
